928 MECHANIC? (New York City area)
Does anyone know a good 928 mechanic in the New York City area??? My father is actually a mechanic and flat out REFUSES to work on my 1980 euro. I figure if I go to a different guy it might light a fire under his a$$. Either way I'll finally get my tranny fixed, it's just a matter of how much I'll have to pay. Thanks for any help.

Gene Kirschner owner of Autohaus {Porsche only}in Chatham, NJ.
About 40 minutes from NYC.
He is the best.
Factory/Dealer trained in the 80's.
Maintains my 911 and 928 to perfection. Also honest to boot.

Do you guys have phone #s for these places?? Or is that gonna be a problem posting them on this forum?? I'm still in college so the funds are there but limited. I'd like to call to get an estimate before driving too far. Thanks again guys.

Vinnie,
with limited funds life will be tough with an older 928. Labor rates are $90.00 plus per hour at a good P-car shop.
Although there are some who swear 928's are cheap to maintain. Go figure!
Autohaus
1-973-701-8300.
Don't wait until the spring time-the shop books for months at a time due to the Driver's Ed Porsche club track program.
Gene knows 928's. There are few left.

These guys are on Long Island. I've done LH module repair for them. They know 928s very well.

If you want go to CT, I highly recommend David. He is a very active member of the 928 community in New England and supports the world as a charter member of the 928 Owners Club - member chair - and also races a 928.

Tranny work? The best afak is Steve Cattaneo. He rebuilt the tranny on my 88 and I couldn't be more satisfied. He is a regular on the board and is considered "The" authority on 928 trannies.
He is located upstate.

Sonny at SM Motorsports
140 Lakeville Rd
New Hyde Park, NY 11040-3004
516-775-8655
(kept my car for awhile but knows 928s. Relatively reasonable rates)
Euromeccanica
711 S Columbus Ave
Mount Vernon, NY 10550-4715
(914) 668-1300
(real nice, knowledgeable, expensive)
I've also been to Formula Motorsports in LIC. He also seems very good but I did get the distinct impression that my 928 was about his last priority. Also didn't make that much effort to fix what I had brought the car in for (correctly diagnosed a bad MAF but missed the intake leak).
When I first bought my 928 I had PAR Porsche in New Rochelle do the timing belt and water pump. They seemed to do a very professional job and were highly recommended, although they were awfully expensive and took a long time.
