My 79 is making progress towards the objective of participating in DE and weekend events this summer. In the past, I have rotated the tach some 90 degrees to place redline at the 12 o'clock position. Currently the tach isn't working so I have to go in anyway. Can it be rotated? Would I be better off with a aftermarket tach? I've seen photos on the list of tachs mounted to the pod. Seems clumsy. What is being used besides replacing all gauges in the pod?
TIA

Your tach is about number four hundred and seventy three on the DE priority list. DE is more about smoothness and precision than speed. The speed goes up naturally as you gain experience and ability. In an OB you'll be shifting when you run out of torque (acceleration), not when you run out of revs.

ErnestSw,
Thanks for the response. I realize the significance or lack of hence the title of the thread. But none the less, I certainly feel a working tach is a plus. As long as I've got to address it, I would get the most out of it. Thanks anyway.

MJ, that's a common thing to do where feasible -- but I think you'll find that to do this you'll have to hack up your cluster pretty extensively. IIRC there would be issues with the circuit board, which you might have to redesign to some degree. Ernest is right though, after a bit of seat time running it hard you'll find that the torque drops of noticeably when it's time to shift. Your call...
