Default Lift and jack stand points

Can anyone please identify all lift points. Everytime I need to get my car on stands it's a real pain. I know of the four jack points( just behind front wheels and infront of rear wheels) but where can I put jack stands when lifting from jack points. Picture is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The rear crossmember under the tranny. Great for working on the rear as one point lifts the entire rear evenly. Since it is a single point, I would NOT jackstand there. Use it to lift and then jackstand under the rear lift points.

The front, ummm, bash plates or whatever they are called, that bolt onto the lower A-arm at the body mounts.

The lower A-arms under the body mounts.

Anywhere along the lower A-arms, recognizing this will lift the suspension. Same with the rear wheels.

I have used all of these. There are more.

Here is a pic I took this weekend of my old front sway bar that shows one of my jacks in place on the front. The 2nd pic shows my car from the front with the two jacks in place but not the actual point of contact on the car.

Yep - I've used the 'bash plates'...they are on the rear part of the 2 tow eyes.

BTW - I found out that our cars will balance PERFECTLY with a RF & LR jackstand...or vice-versa. You can 'rock' her that way with one finger. Pretty cool....

Also - Check Pirtle's site (members.rennlist.com/pirtle/svc.html)...refer to the pic next to step #22 on his motor mount procedure...PERFECT pic of the 'bash plates'

Is it safe enough to work under a 928 sitting on 4 jackstands without any other support or backup?

On the rare occasions when I work under mine, I'll put it on 4 jackstands and put ramps under the front wheels (with a little space between them and the bottom of the tires, based on how high I've got the jackstands cranked up) and leave the floor jack at the rear crossmember jacking point. I just don't like the idea of single points of failure. No desire to be squished to death, even if it's by my favorite worldly possession.

Use wide base jackstands and place them properly. On a smooth concrete floor using the rear jack points and front bash plates, my car was rock solid. I could lean on it or be wrenching very hard on some bolts without it moving at all.

I'm not sure. Thats why my car is sitting safe and sound on 6 three tons jackstands. One at each point and two approximately center on each side...just in case.

Anyone know/found where the approximate CG* is between the two jack points on a stock** 928?

* Center of Gravity
** Lightened cars (like mine) are probably front heavy?

Even when I use my scissor lift, I place jack stands under the "X"s of the lift as a precaution.

Depends on what you view as "safe enough"...I personally...am with ED on this one, I always put my ramps, under the front tires, and floorjack with a block of 4x4 under the transaxle..to assure my continued presence on the planet...regardless of my jackstands supporting the "flyswatter" if you will....

I am a new 928 owner (1979 5 spd) with lots of jacking in my future.

So did I miss it? I did not see any discussion on a center jacking point for the front end. Does one exist? Do you need to jack it it using the front side jack point and then put the jackstand under the bash plates one side at a time? Is there an issue with getting one side up top high and tweekinfg something in the suspension? Any recommendations on order, i.e. rear firts and then front one side or the other or front first and then rear?

Thanks

I don't use the "bash plates." The body in front of the crossmember is weak. Mine is weaker do to accident damage. I always place the jack stands under the rear mounts for the lower A-arms. Those are integral to the crossmember. It is behind the wheel so access is less convenient.

There's not a good front center lift point. I'm sure someone throws the jack under the crossmember and lifts it by that plate that covers the steering rack. Using the tranny cradle at the rear works well as a center lift. I support the car there as well. I've used jack stands but have a tree stump that fits perfectly. I jack by the designated spots and slide a stump (24"x20"?) under the cradle. Solid.

Here's an old thread on what I do at the front when getting serious:

Good pic of my Buick's wheel in that. How would whitewalls look on a 928? Gimme pics!
