Default Jacking cradle

I was asked about the cradle I made to support the car so here goes. This supports the car at the standard jacking points. The ends can be supported with whatever is handy which is usually 4"x4" by 2' studs stacked in alternating directions. Makes it easy to get under the car and it's really solid for that heavy work.

The main part is two 4x4s that ar 90" long. Those are sndwiched by plywood for stability. Then there are two stack of plywood that match up to the lift points. The stacks are (currently) 47" apart and 3" tall. That works for front and back lift points but may need to be adjusted. The 3" height clears the exhaust system. You exhaust may vary.

The car needs to be lifted before it will fit underneath with enough clearance to be jacked. I then jack the car from under the cradle. With one end on a solid 4x4 stack, I lift the other up to the next level (4 or 8 inches) and repeat until high enough.

Here's a few pics.

Default close-up

Here's the lift point. I used to adjust the stacks up/down and in/out but this arrangement seems to work for front and back without issue.

Sorry that the measurements are hard to read. The tape measure is showing the width of the stacks, 47". The ruler shows the vertical measurement: 1/2 inch plywood, then a 4x4 (3.75x3.75) then another 1/2 plywood, then 4 3/4 inch pieces.

A bit got painted along with the car. Made it easy to shoot the lower body at the car is lowered a bit. (155mm all around)

Nice one Glen,

Where do you initially jack the front end? If I understand, you jack, fit the cradle, then put the jack under the cradle!?

Yep. Jack it up and put in stands, then jack again under the cradle.

Not fast, but this has really worked for a few big jobs where the car has been out of service for weeks and the space is really needed..
