Next i went back and installed the other flange capsrews/nuts and tightened the flanges down.

As those of you who have your crossover already know.. David included a really nice set of flange gaskets, thanks DR. One thing i did notice was that a couple of the nuts were too close to the pipe on the flange to get a socket on for tightening so i had to use and open end wrench, but not a big deal in the scheme of things. Your gonna have that with that larger 2.5" pipe on the flange.

FYI, this is why we included the 6 allen head bolts so they can be used on the Crossover side flange if needed and can make it easier to tighten in some situations.

Ben,

It is great you posting this for other to see. Looks great. Where did you eventually find those stailess band clamps?

I AGREE!

Those can almost always be found at NAPA in the "big truck exhaust section". Those wide Stainless Steel "Easy Seal" brand clamps are commonly used on truck stacks.

UPDATE: I was just told they are also at Car Quest Auto Parts.

In regards to the clamps, I've had those on the Avenger exhaust. I have place them laterally at the 3-4 o'clock position and have no access problems. Leaving them at the 6 o'clock position allows some scraping over speed bumps, also after a long run the next day the condensation inside the pipe drips through the small slit/ opening in between the clamps and puddles on the floor. Looking good!

Basically that was the balance of the pictures i took of the install. After the flanges were tight i returned to the modular crossover straight section/factory catback junction to tighten those final clamps. Basically the end of the crossover straight section ended up right where the double butting is on the factory catback.

I fired it up, checked for leaks, and then made some racket for awhile. And honestly DR i bet it wasn't two minutes after i shut 'er down that I got the call from you. Congrats on producing an awesome product, I'll send you the Hi-res version of the pics and you can do what you like.

Mistakes i made and things YOU might do differently:

Obviously the clamps should be oriented so the bolts are to the sides of the pipes for better ground clearance

It may be better functionally and visually to insert the capscrews from the crossover flange rather than the exaust manifold flange. It sure would have made tightening the flanges easier.

I found my clamps at a local parts chain called IWI (Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois) auto parts. Napa was going to be the last place i checked as i worked my way closer to home.

Just one question....I notice some mention of sealing issues and even the big clamps possibly not getting it completely tight. Ed mentions drips of internal condensation with his Avenger exhaust too. Is this just something to live with that can't be resolved and is not a practical issue? I don't mean to detract from the well-earned celebration here. I'm curious, as I think the issue exists with my stock exhaust too. Thanks.

Hi Bill,

Yes it can be resolved with normal exhaust systems by using good fitment, good sealing clamps and it never hurts to use some Hi-temp silicone sealant. Also High temp neoprene sealant has been recommended by a few pros I know.

In the case of the crossover we are making a transition from a 2.5" pipe to a 2.2.5" system. Luckily Porsche but a slight bulge on the end of the factory exhaust just rearward of the slits that is approx. 2.32" (it varies from system to system), this is close to fitting perfect with the 2.5" OD tubing, But may require sealant and is some cases a few revolutions of exhaust wrap to give a good seal.

Of course the cats and or straight pipes could be necked down for an exact fit, BUT then when some of us come out with our Dual 2.5" Cat-Back systems then you would have a restriction in those systems. Hence the "compromise"..

> I don't mean to detract from the well-earned celebration here.

No detraction at all, it is a valid question and is covered thoroughly in our Installation Notes and this is also available on our website on the Modular Crossover Product page.

> I'm curious, as I think the issue exists with my stock exhaust too.

It exists on almost all exhaust systems, just look for the slightly darkened area usually at the bottom edges of the connection. Heck, my 2005 Ford F-150 with only 2400 miles already shows small signs of it. Again a small amount of High Temp exhaust type sealant (silicone or neoprene) should solve the problem AND make it easier to disassemble the system if you ever need to.
