Uh oh, Heinrich is here, now we have to all straighten up and quit goofing off :-)
On a serious note, yes Heinrich, everyone may not agree with some of his mods, but his takes darn good care of his 928s.
I wish you could have been at the Frenzy and heard him tell the story about the rat that was eating his 928! We couldn't stop laughing for a long time after that!

I've wondered about a side pipe on a 928 too. My son's Roush Mustang has a side exhaust with somewhat rectangular pipe tips, Magnaflows & Xpipe.... The side pipes & skirt make the car look awesome & it really sounds fantastic too. No problems in almost 3 yrs now of the exhaust in front of the rear wheels either. Those custom tips from Roush are about $180 a piece! Ask me how I know? They did mold them nicely into the side skirt they fitted to the car though.

>BTW Dave, we can have the ovalized bends done in stainless as well as everything else...
Cool, so you guys have an in house mandrill bender? If so I am VERY jealous! Or do you mean get Dr. Gas to do it ? I have a mandrill bender company about an hour away from me so it would be more cost effective due to shipping to use them.... unless you want to take a nice drive in your 928 and deliver it to me... I have a place you can overnight before the return trip and we could have a few drinks and talk 928 stuff :-)
BTW, I just did some measuring and ciphering under my GT and I could make a side exit exhaust system with just our Modular Crossover w/cats, (which are probably quieter than the small racing mufflers) using the original piping from a stock S4 system and nothing else in a few hours!!!
When Randall and I get a little caught up we are going to make one just for giggles to see how it sounds..

Some racing sanctioning bodies /tracks require that you have a "muffler" BUT DO NOT MEASURE THE DB levels So many make "mufflers" that have little effect on either noise level or back pressure specifically for those roundy round racers who must have a "muffler" even if it does little or nothing ! Side out let exhaust is fun I had it on a 1963 Rambler V-8 glass packs and side exhaust in 1968 as I recall , the 1970 AAR Cuda had factory side exhaust outlets in front of the wheels

You for bringing it up.....ME for remembering it! (What a GREAT straightline car that was...but - God help you if you had to turn or brake !!)
