Default Installing an Aftermarket Remote Entry System?

I'm getting tired of having to lock/unlock my car with the key so would like to install a simple remote entry system.

Can you all give me some pointers on which system to buy, ease of installation, etc.?

I'm looking for something simple that will just lock/unlock the doors remotely. The less bells and whistles and the easier the installation the better.

Links to documented write-ups on a 928 installation would also be helpful.

Much thanks for any assistance.

Tony has a complete, and typically lucid write-up of this procedure.

Randy-my-brotha:

Just did this myself. Not too hard. I still haven't done the hatch release, but it's not too bad. Alan is by far the expert on this. I suggest you contact him with specific questions.

BTW, Tony's writeup is differnt. Your alarm is under the pass seat. Easier to get at IMHO.

I was thinking of doing the same, but in an '85 Euro S that has a really hokey 80's alarm system ("DigiGuard") already weaved through it - anything I should look out for?

Also, is there a way to get a Porsche-labeled alarm fob, similar to this one (but for a fraction of the price):

I installed mine, after reading Tony's write-up. The best feature I found to be the remote hatch release. When you approach the car with an armful of groceries, or whatever, it's a great relief to pop the hatch electronically, as opposed to poking around with a key in the shadow of the rear spoiler! One of the best modifications.

Is it possible to get the hatch to release if one of the doors is not open. IIRC the hatch would not open on my GT unless one of the doors was open while pulling the lever.

The remote sender has a third button, which is called an Auxiliary function, I think. Anyway, this button triggers the hatch release, regardless of the position of the doors - closed, or open.

It's possible, but you have to re-wire the system. Not too hard from the looks of it, I just haven't tackled it ... yet.

Hi.

Sweanders is correct lol.

I have the button on my remote alarm to open hatch..i wired it extremely carefully and it works perfectly when i push the button on remote,,,,,AS LONG AS 1 DOOR IS OPEN FIRST

I am still trying to figure how how to stop this without running cables all the way to the back...I promise you this IS NOT an easy thing to figure out...

All the best Brett

However, you can defeat that "feature" by re-wiring it - per Alan. I've not done this yet, but Alan definately knows his electronics, so I believe him.

Is it possible to trick the rear hatch release into thinking that the door is always open?

I would imagine that it senses if the door is open or not by checking the interior light switch, could it be that simple?

Hi Sweanders,

We must think alike lol

Thats precisely what i thought....soooo....i fitted an independant live feed and NOT what i thought was the light feed...STILL WOULD NOT WORK UNLESS DOOR IS OPEN....

I have come to the conclusion that there is some sort of control feed at THE REAR...NOT at front where the switch is fed.....so when i have more time I will rewire the back as well...I am determined to NOT have to open the damn door for a REMOTE fob

All the best Brett

Rear hatch is normally operated by a switched posistve signal from the factory pull-button and a simultaneous switched ground supplied by opening a door. Alan apparently has a way to do this with diodes. I did it with 2 relays placed in the area of the hatch motor. You need one trigger wire from your remote-entry/alarm brain box. The hatch motor has a constant 12V wire and the two relays can be wired together to give you a ground signal and a 12V signal from this trigger. I tapped these two signals to the switched ground and switched 12V wires going into the motor. Hatch opens with doors open or closed.
BTW my setup is part of a Commando fm-870 alarm system and if I don't disarm first, the hatch opening will trigger the alarm.
I disabled my factory alarm since I was installing another. I wonder if you need to disable yours (if you have one) so the remote entry system won't set off factory alarm just like you unlocked without the long "alarm" key.
Good luck,
Dave McK.

Alan is the expert and I did my GTS from his instructions.
I have a diagram on the home computer that I can email you Randy.
Cost was about $50 and the hatch works as well.
