A great question on what we have been watching for about a year now. For what is supposed to be a simple implementation, it is sure taking a long time.

I am losing my optimism on it. I think Mark Robinson may have found the happy medium (can we call it mid-mounted turbo?)

As far as the RMT, I will also chime in with "Any word"?

Hey guys....don't give up hope just yet.....

The rear turbo sits on my car..and my car sits in my garage at the moment...after the long drive home from Sharktoberfest..the alternator died about 100 miles out of town....got her home into the garage..and haven't even popped the hood haha..I know...I'll get to it...

On the other front...one of the current developers (Chuck Ahrens) recently had his first baby...so..along with congratulations..I'm sure he is enjoying time at home with the new one. JT..the other half of the team is in the midst of rebuilding his old motor (the one where my rear turbo came from)...

I know..I should get cracking...Plans at this point are to replace the alternator and then I will swap out the 30lb injectors for a set of 24's...as most of my issues relate to too much fuel. Once I do that, we'll hit the dyno and tune the SMT for optimal running. I'm watching J. Speakes progress too...could be the ticket for easy fuel management...

I just ordered one of the Oil air separators from DR..should be here today..and that will be installed..along with modifed cam breather setup....

Also...we will cure the issue of the maf popping out of the "hole" during boost...is it me..or do the turbo'ed cars seem to be more prone to this than the vorteched car? haha...

Other than that..up to the alternator failing...the rear turbo has run over 4000 miles...and nothing has blown up yet.. Hahaha..

Keep the faith guys.....we're working on it...

Later,
Tom

There are two guys working together as P-Motorsports that Tom Middleton and I have been assisting. The one that owned the test mule blew a head gasket. We pulled the motor and disassembled it with the intent on doing a minor overhaul. But once the motor was apart, the owner decided he wanted to do a full blown rebuild for serious boost, so that is in part where the delay lies. We had the block decked here locally, and then shipped it down to Motorsport UT to be forwarded on to U.S. Chrome for nikasil. Custom Ross pistons have been ordered through Motorsport UT with a lower static C/R (I believe 9:1) and a slight overbore. (101mm?) Oliver rods were also ordered, together with new head studs for the block. Hopefully all the pieces will be back for assembly at the beginning of the new year.

The RMT kit was taken off the test mule and put on Tom's GT. The other partner who was to work with fine tuning the kit on Tom's car was an expectant father. I ran into him at our shop last weekend (they sublet space from us) and it appears that he is now a proud poppa, and is ready to get back to business and start working with Tom's car again. (Tom's car did make an appearance at Sharktoberfest by-the-way.)

So, motorbuilding and paternity seem to be the major hang ups on the RMT project at this point, but it looks like things should be back on track in the new year.

I've got to tell ya James, "simple" as far implementation is always going to be relative. If you want a simple low boost kit that will give you 330ish rwhp, I imagine they could probably put that together right now, but their goal is a 400rwhp kit. With some more dyno time, I'd imagine Tom's car will get there soon enough.

Thanks DR...

Well, they work... I don't remember if I ever posted, but the one on my 79 euro fired up and ran, however I parked it after installing and never got around to finishing it up (story of my life). I think I might have a kinked oil line, but I'm running WAAAAY too much oil pressure for a Garret turbo (they like lower pressures than I'm running) and the rest is make-shift just to see if the system would fire up and run in a worst-case scenario. No real details, but its incredibly easy to make, very low cost (the more resourceful and crafty you are the better), and from what I've heard from other butt-boosters they put down the power! If I had a MAF car it would be 1 step closer.
So, bottom line, the car runs with it installed, just size your exhaust housing carefully so you don't create major back-pressure and restriction. Its a balancing act between near-idle boost and constipation

Tom:

I think Murph includes a special clamp that traps the MAF in the boot. See if he can sell you one.

Thanks for the update guys. I have some questions for anyone in the know:

1) what size/type turbo should be used for a rear mount application?
2) what size piping is best to/from the turbo???
3) how much oil pressure should be used for the turbo??

TIA for any answers. I'm trying to get all of my plans drawn up for a (hopefull) spring install.
