Hi:
A 2nd post for tonight-please indulge me. I have a 1991 928 S4 and wondering if there are opinions on where the best place is to obtain the big rubber door seal that goes around the perimeter of the door. I know most places carry them, but any ideas on 1) best place for reasonably placed seal and; 2) any one have general directions for installation-
regards-

I looked at how the seal runs around the door and decided that a cut at the bottom of the door was a lesser evil than taking everything apart that needed to be taken apart otherwise.
There are two types of seals out there from what I understand. There is an OEM seal that costs somewhat around $120/each, but from what I understand it does not have the extra lip that the 91 and newer models came with. So using this type of seal would be a downgrade.
The Porsche seals now all come with that lip, but they are around $250.
If you don't already have a favorite of the "big three", ask them what they offer and charge. I believe all three have the above options available.

Nicole is right, you are going to have to cut it somewhere.
I bought a $120 seal and it had an imitation lip, not quite Porsche like but for the price can't complain.

So - about cutting the door seal. i didn't do it, mine came out and a new one in just fine. IIRC, I disconnected the door check strap and the harness at the footwell .....

I replaced mine on the passenger side with a used one purchased on eBay.
heinrich is right. No cutting is necessary, except for a small notch in the seal that's required where the seal covers exterior side molding strip nut on the inside of the door.
3M makes an automotive rubber seal adhesive. It's similar to contact adhesive, but allow the seal to be removed or repositioned during assembly.
