Default 5.1 DTS works

Just hooked up the CD player with 75 ohm digital audio cable to the DTS decoder and listened to Marvin Gaye in surround sound. The five speakers are JBL P422 with a mounting depth les than 2 inches.

Hey, Rick, those speakers look like a good item for the fronts. Interested in how the center mounted. For the rear bolster holes, are you going to switch to the JL 6 inch "reversed" later? I'm interested if they provide enough low end to avoid a sub box.

Bill,
With 5.1 the 5 main speakers ideally are identical. It took me a while a few years ago to find decent speakers with a shallow mounting depth, these sound very good; I readily admit I'm not an audiophile or sound expert. The pair of JL 6W0 are already installed as the .1. To me they are probably enough but of course won't match a 22" sub. I sent Pete your bracket (in tomorrow's mail). The bypass valve was moved to the back partly for aesthetics, mainly because the MAF and throttle body have been moved to the driver's side. I'm mounting (yeah right, OK not me the shop) three gauges on the driver's A pillar. Cyberdyne digital with memory, fuel pressure, boost and temperature. There will be an oil catch can on both sides.

Yes, that's right about 5.1. The sub works best as the .1, especially if LFE is supported. And I agree with making all the mains the same. I have a system in my Durango that has the sub directed to the mains and it is very well-balanced and has plenty of low-end - no separate sub needed IMO. It will wake the neighborhood. The headunit, a now discontinued Panny CQ-DVR909U (DVD Audio/Video, DTS, DD) completely transformed the Durango into a thundering multimedia show.

So, your SC installers flipped Andy's SC intake around so it goes to the driver side? Better for the throttle arrangement in your case. Can't wait to see how it comes out.

Anyway, I'm looking at those speakers. So, I could put in 5 of them - 3 across the front, two in the back quarter panels - and a pair of 6W0s in the rear bolsters - looks like that is your configuration, and that should be nice.

Bill,
The amp is 275w 35 to each speaker and 100 to the subs. The installer said the subs would sound even better with more power but he was playing it louder than I'll ever listen to it.

Randy,
The interior is about done. If I can borrow my camera from my daughter (she uses it in photography class) when the shop is open I'll take some pics. At worst I'll take some after the car is done. The cracked dash really stands out now that the carpet has been replaced.
