Default Powder coat cost?

I'm going to have my intake powder coated and there are apparently a lot of places that canl do it. Can someone give me an idea of what price I ought to be looking for so that I don't have to contact lots of places if the first gives me a decent price.

Thanks
Rod

Think I paid $160 and half of that was for stripping the old paint off ....

Chris,

I got mine done and they yellowed out (I am pissed). Also the loco yoco that did them in phoenix did not know how to fill the cam cover corrosion areas... do you have anyone who can do a job that can last like or better than factory?

Bummer, yellowing sounds like the clear coat was no good.

My original cam covers were pitted, powder coating improves them but does not eradicate the casting imperfections. I had to replace one cam cover and I bought a used one from 928intl, it was nice and smooth ... might be an option for you, also means your car is still runnng while waiting for the covers to be painted !

Powder coating will definately last longer (if applied correctly) than the factory paint.

Lomas's outfit (http://www.motorsportincslc.com/) is not far from you, I bet he could sort out powder coating for you.

I don't know if he's still doing it, but here's a previous thread on powder coating.

Check the archieves there are plenty of powdercoat threads and IIRC a few sad stories. I would not let price be the ultimate driver. My theroy was to use someone who knew 928's. Some of the surfaces need to covered, not rocket science but a motorcycle shop may not figure it out or remember what you told them. 928 Motorsports did my covers/intake(S3)/oil fill a few years ago for $300. I am happy with the work and haven't had any issues with flaking.

I used small amounts of filler on the areas i couldnt sand or grind down.
I found that using the wrinkle type finish will better mask any small defects in the covers compared to a smooth glossy one.
Wrinkle is just as easy to keep clean also.

Why would they need to be clear coated?

Also note that the original color when new was a nice silver which turns some what tan when exposed to heat. More than one intake has been "colored matched" to that tanish color!

Metallic colors in Powder coating require a clear coat.
