Ditto on that request! Are you keeping the stock S rear cover?

Thanks very much. I got the GT back from the paint shop and I'm putting all the pieces back on. It's still GP White, but I had a small bit of blue metal flake in the base coat and light blue pearl added to the clear. It looks white until the light hits it, then it has a bluish halo. The thing is gorgeous and I have trouble getting to sleep after working on it in the evening. I'm like a kid on Christmas day. I'll get some pics up on my web site when it's together. The fat a$$ rear is looking normal to me now and my poor bony a$$ stock S4 looks like there is something wrong with it.

Can't wait to see it! Maybe at Sharks at the lake and then again in Denver?

Hi Nicole,
Denver is my deadline, but working as fast as I can and expecting sooner. The delays in sourcing small parts is really bugging me. I spend hours searching on the internet and on the phone. Some things I order never arrive and have to be re-ordered. That sort of thing I find very frustrating. Not as frustrating as driving in to Portland to buy the stuff so most of it is self inflicted. I've had no problem with any of the 928 suppliers, just other sources.

This makes the 928 look more and more like a 968 (IMO what the GTS should have looked like). And that's a good thing. The rear fenders of a 968 have a very substantial flare outward and it looks great.

Louie - looks great!!

What type of bonding adhesive did you use between the flares and the body?

I used a 2 part Urethane adhesive. The 2 parts mix in the applicator spout so it's sure to be mixed properly and is easy to use. It is a Duramix brand (3M company) and is primarily made to bond metal car body panels, but is also what they recommend for metal to polyester resin/glass fiber panel joining. Once cured, it's very strong. I've tugged on these fenders trying to pull them loose and I think I'd bend the metal first. Here is a link to the product.

If that link won't work, go here and work your way through from the Duramix products icon to Duramix metal bonding and general purpose adhesives, Duramix large metal panel adhesives.

I suppose many other adhesives of either the urethane, or epoxy, type would work as long as they were compatible for use with both metal and polyester resin.

Thanks Dan. I did attempt to incorporate 944/968 look with a tiny bit of '70's muscle car, and to have it also be compatible with the front fenders. Most of the comments have been that it looks like it should have been made that way originally.

I used that duramix stuff extensively when rebuilding the front and rear bumpers on my 78. Worked wonderfully. You need the gun. Don't cheap out and mix it manually like I did.

Here are a few pics. It's still all apart. The rear bumper cover is not aligned and secured. You can pick up a bit of the bluish highlight. The whole thing is subtle and doesn't stand out in a garish manner.

Looks great Louie, nice job.

Did you get new teflon pads for under the rear spoiler?

Chris
