In '72 my daily driver was a '59 356A 1600S Convertible D with a 1750cc kit. One of my co-workers at the cabinet factory was an American muscle fan and a few times I gave him rides home. He told me I could have made money in stoplight to stoplight races. Under 1900 lbs. helps. And, since it wasn't a Lotus, it didn't break. ;-)

LT1 and LS1 engines with stock internals can't handle boost at all. The factory pistons are cast and the slightest amount of detonation will granade the motor. When I had my LT1 SC'ed I had a ton of safetly measures and only ran 6PSI. Even then the head gasket blew. I ended up swapping the pistons out when the heads came off. The Optical Distributor (Optispark) was bellow the WP. Any moisture will destroyed it and GM charged $425 for a replacement.

LT/S1 engines are great as long as they are not boosted.
