Yokohama S Drive are really nice tires, have them on a SL 600. Has anyone tried the General Exclaim's, they are very highly rated by Tire Rack and are even less expensive than the Fuzion's - $340 a set for 16" wheels.

i drive a boxster rather than a 928, but have tried TONS of different tires on street / track over the last few years. my previous set was the bridgestone RE-01R. following those, to save some $$$, i decided to try the ZRi since it's so cheap. it really feels very similar to the RE-01R, which is a pretty high dollar tire. the grip on the ZRi's seems to be in the 0.95 territory for my car, whereas the RE-01R's were good for 1.01G. the ZRi's hold up well on the track and are reasonably comfy & quiet on the street. they last a pretty good while, too.
my lap times on a 1.41 mile track only went down by half a second with the ZRi's compared with the RE-01R. for the price difference of 120%, it's just not worth it to me to pay that much money for a half a second. i am now on my second set of the ZRi's.
BTW, those having issues with chunking are probably not running enough pressure. low pressure creates excessive heat. FYI, i run these at 38psi hot.

Went to SITM 08 on these tires (2000 plus mile round trip) and they were fantastic.

Mike V, what are your rim widths? Just curious... You are one size wider tire than I am with 7.5 and 9, and the fronts don't look like they could handle much more width. PS2's on mine.

dr Bob,
My rims are the same width as yours. I was also worried about fit, but took a chance. They turned out fine to me anyway with only 10mm additional width. They are wearing fine (not in the middle as you would expect with too wide of a tire on too narrow of a rim).

Mike, and Dr Bob,
If you check the manufactures recommendations and approved rim widths for tires you will see that you can run upto a 245 on a 7.5" rim,
I have a set of the same rims as Mike, and I have 245s on all 4 corners as it was all I could get at that far away place.
