Post DE report on Fuzion ZRi tires
From the perspective of an advanced novice I'm very impressed with the Fuzion ZRi tires. They warm up quickly, have grip at least equal to the SO3s and are nicely progressive at the limit. They're also quiet on the road.
At less than $500.00 for a set of 4 I would strongly recommend them.

I was impressed with the handling of the Falken 451 Betas that I had tried at my last DE. Unfortunately, they chunked a bit. Track was warm, not hot.
How was the track temperature at your DE? 2 days or 1? Did the fronts chunk at all?
I am looking for a set of street tires that perform well but resist chunking. Could the Fuzions be such a tire?

Gotta resist chunking at the track. I am unable chunk tires on the street. I suspect that the higher tire temperatures attained during track use softens the rubber making it more prone to chunking at the track. It is interesting to see how smooshy gooshy the tire rubber is around the treads after a couple of track sessions. It is not hard to imagine how a hot tire in such a condition could chunk.
A buddy mentioned tweaking with camber settings: 1.5 to 2 degrees. I dunno, I might try it in addition to chunk resistant tires. They make puncture resistant, run flats, why no chunk-resistant... or are those the high treadwear rated tires?

It was a two day DE with 8 20 minute track sessions. Ambient temperatures ranged from about 50 to 65 degrees. There was no chunking and no sign of wear.
Chunking may not be the tire's fault. The 928 tends to understeer. If your tire has incorrect pressure and is rolling under, or if your sidewall is too high, you'll tend to chunk your front tires.
I've dialed all of the understeer out of my car, so YMMV.
You won't be able to get 2 degrees of camber on a stock 928 without installing camber plates.

A coolish day, but I am definitely encouraged by your experience! Most definitely!
Hot tire pressures I have been running were around 38psi. I know that pressures may vary tire to tire, but do you go much lower than that? Does hitting aprons/curbs inflict chunkage wounds? I have to admit that I like hitting them, but the front left that is chunking the worst is on the unweighted side of the car in the turn as it hits. It doesn't seem logical for this to be the culprit, but alas grasshopper have much to learn.

I'm running 34 pounds hot, but I haven't chalked my tires or measured their temperatures after a track session so I'm guessing. If you're chunking your unweighted tires it may very well be the curbs. Taking some air out of the tires will also increase their compliance and may reduce chunking.
Hitting curbs AT THE APEX is fine, otherwise it's a waste of time and needless wear on the suspension.

Thanks. I am only speculating as to where the chunking occurs. Twice I recall hearing rubber bits kick up into the wheel well and it was right after I switched the weight back to the culprit tire after bumping a curb while unweighted. This is in an S transition where other cars may be leaving rubber behind, so it might be my rubber or other peoples rubber.
I'll be at the track in a couple weeks and will try to run two different ways in two different sessions. I may learn something.

Finally got around to trying Fuzion Zri tires at the track last month. They did really really well, especially considering that they had practically no miles on them.
Zero signs of chunking, although track temps were fairly low that weekend. Best experience I've had with street tires to date. Lap times improved by 1.5-2 seconds (I should have been rusty since it was the first event of the year, but maybe sleep-driving is paying off). Now to see how they hold up and perform over time.
Tried these tires based on the tip from Ernest and am pleased with results thus far. Thanks!

Fuzion ZRi's are excellent and a "W" speed rating
FWIW - Recently did a comparison with Conti SportContact2:
ZRi: 225/50/16 all 4; need replacement (10% remain)
*quiet
*good grip with confidence at extreme adhesion
*extremely predictable threshold*
*consistent feel when traction exceeded and consistent feel during recovery
CSC2: 205/50/17 and 255/40/17; need replacement (20% remain)
*quiet
*decent grip but timid at extreme adhesion
*somewhat unpredictable threshold, partially due to lack of confidence at extreme adhesion
*squirly when tractiion is exceeded and jerky feel during recovery
Acknowledge both sets of tires are due for replacement, but I was surprised how much better the Fuzion's were --> even in the rear with smaller 225 vs 255 size. At nearly half the cost, the Fuzion's beat the Conti's hands down (IMHO).
Can't wait to put my new replacements on and see how much better the ZRi's feel in 255 over my old 225's.

I had Fusion ZRi tires on my S2000 for a trip to Willow Springs, and I was horribly disappointed. They turned, essentially, to grease after about 2 hard laps. They would start to just simply let go. I suppose being hard on tires is a symptom of rookie track time for me, but I got rid of them, and even RE750s have been better.
