Engine will not idle
My hurricane Katrina project is coming along as well as can be expected. I pulled 90% of the interior out and allot of the exterior was already disassembled because it was almost ready for painting when Katrina came through. The problem that I have right now is, It won't idle at all. I had to put the fuse panel and modules back in get the transmission flushed and to evaluate the engine and drive train. I can start the engine by pushing the accelerator. It runs smooth and can be brought down to 400 rpm's by slowly letting the accelerator up but the second that I take my foot off of the pedal the engine dies? My first thought is that I don't have something connected. From what I read the idle stablizer won't cause the engine to die, just idle bad. Is this correct?......... one other side note. The ignition control module has a red light on it indicating a bad manifold temp. sensor so I have it bypassed.

In S4s there often is not enough air flowing past the throttle plate to idle without the idle stabilizer (earlier throttle bodies have an idle air screw). If you can get the car down to 400 RPM, then that's pretty good evidence there is not enough air for the LH to keep the idle at its targeted 675 +/- 25. You can test for IAS signal at the LH plug, but I can't remember the pins and values. Alternatively, a Hammer or Spanner would tell you if the IAS is working.

Problem fixed......... WD 40 down the line leading to the idle stablizer and jumpered pin 21 to 17 on the LH then touched pin 33 to ground. No click before WD 40. Nice solid click and great idle after!
