Safelite quoted me 1200 and some change. Dealer only item. I may have to upgrade mine to a roof antenna.

Drew that totally sucks, but I'd see what you might be able to do with your insurance. I think they'd want you to have clear vision IMHO.

Curiously, on my GT I have the windshield with the antenna in the glass, yet the real antenna is on the roof. Hmmmm. $800 for a used antenna windshield - $375 for a safelite = $425 profit or an X-pipe. Tough choices!

Anyone want my windshield? $800 good shape.

Steve, I've got the GTS moulding. It's been sitting in my hatch area for the last year and a half waiting for windshield. I'll take before and after pics if I can get the glass.

Thats a deal Man! 800 Bones.

The is the funny thing. On my track shark - It has the antenna in the windshield. I thought about swapping the glass out with the 88 but I heard pulling glass without breaking it is really difficult.

I guess I just have to wait on 20th St.

I used Safelite about a year ago. Paid around $370 total (installed at home, non-antenna version). The new glass makes a huge difference. Hard to believe how bad the windshield gets scratched, nicked, and pitted.

I heard that too, so removal is at your own risk! LOL!

On the GTS moulding ... the lower edges come with 'extra', I realised afterwards having looked at a 91. Need to trim a bit off.

I tried Safelite but here in the boonies they could not find a screen, nice to live in a big city I guess.

In these franchises, you get different information one outlet to the next, one dispatcher to the next. Often they are looking things up in some reference database that just isn't up to date. I've been told all kinds of things, then when they really got down to the installation, it all changed. A few people report getting factory Sigla glass relatively cheap (well, less than $800-1000). One dispatcher told me $500 but then a week later after trying to get it said, sorry, $1000 from Porsche only. Eventually they found aftermarket glass for $350 or so installed. The next time I needed glass I got all kinds of misinformation until I called a local glass shop, part of an area franchise, All Star Glass. They said $280 for aftermarket installed that day at my house or their shop. Thay had it in stock. Proved to be true. And the installer did a good job. I think I just got lucky.

You have to keep calling around and when you hear things that don't sound right, keep calling more places. Tony probably did as well as can be done in Las Vegas. Just the fact that he found a place that stocked the aftermarket glass is good. Only time will tell if the Chinese glass is OK. Some of the aftermarket glass is either too soft (pits easily) or too brittle (small dings spread).

I just made my appointment for a week from wednesday and it will cost $517.00 plus tax. That includes new inner moldings and an antenna windshield with a tinted upper portion from Safelite. I had them double check to verify the antenna.

(This the same quote and information I received from them about a month ago when I first checked, so I have no reason to doubt it. I did get my information from the national 800 number and not the local agent..)

Trust me, i double checked as well and it came with out one. I wasnt worried, its the glass i wanted. In the close up of the lower part of the windshield you can see the little connector for the antenna(round, black at the base of the window area). It is actually the same type that is used on the timining belt warning wire on the belt cover.

The side moldings are not suppose to be glued on. There are 4-5 little plastic clips that get sandwiched between the trim and the pillar mounting point when you push them on. Apparently if they work loose, poeple tend to glue them on. If yours havent been glued on they will come off easily and you will same a bunch of time.
Im going to look into the GTS style while at Sharktoberfest....they give a nice finished look to the edge of the winshiled.

The dremel attatchement is an abrashive buffing wheel...works great in removing material, old paints and stuck on gasket material without damaging or gouging the underlying surface.

As far as we could see , the old glass was a stock windshield. SEKURIFLEX...it had a very soft laminate layer of plastic on the inside of the window. Actually a VERY safe window. However, I could scratch it with my fingernail easily...suction cups from radar det. and my GTECH would leave a permanent rings on it. It was actually starting to delaminate in the corners

Like you Adam this crack has kept me from doing some DE stuff and more importantly open road racing....no excuses now.

BTW, the tint on the top is green but it looks no different than the one i had in there.
Damn.... new glass is pretty to look through!

looks like the info helped a few folks

Hope this hasn't been asked already.

Did the windshield break when you removed it?

I had a big chip and lots of sand blasting from driving (was that way when I bought it), so I just recently got a new antenna windshield, took them 2 or 3 weeks to get the glass. Covered by insurance, so I don't know the cost. I also swapped out the side mouldings with the GTS parts that have the foam strip behind them.
With windshield, new paint, new window tint, wheels/brakes she is looking purdy these days!!

I had gotten quotes from a few different glass companies, including Safelite. I took the recommendation from my neighbor and called up Triumph Auto Glass. They originally quoted $238, but price matched a "discount glass" shop, and matched it to $198. They came out to my house and installed the new glass for $198 out the door. Also took the guy about 3x as long to install because of the old type of adhesive on the window. But now everything looks great. I would check them out if I were you! I am very happy with the quality.
