Three Wheelin'
A technical issue regarding this situ. If he flipped the engine over and removed the girdle finding it only needed main bearings, can he replace and retorque the girdle without pulling the heads? Can the girdle be correctly torqued with the top of the engine already built?

no one else is going to get the shaft. i asked him to buy this car from him. he was honest with me the whole way. he told me he never heard it run. and he had no idea of the condition. thats why i go the car for 2700.00. I bought it with an undersanding he would help me if it was in real bad shape. and he has. I have no complaint about hte guy. and no he is not a dealer. he does however deal mostly with 944's. if he sells the car the new owner will know. it will either end up on ebay in parts or he will put anohter motor in it. or sell it to someone and be honest. He didn't lie to me at all.

Ah the ethical question ... you suddenly realize that that crisp new $100 bill in your pocket is counterfeit..... Turn it in to the bank and you get ZERO , try to pass it on

Good one. The sellers were taken care of after I returned the car. The CHP and I discussed this, and it was not clearly to their advantage that I personally give them the car. They just needed to see it sometime soon. So, I decided that turning the car over to the CHP probably would just have left me $38K lighter. And I soon decided I could not swim with the sharks that inhabit the used car business in LA and Orange County where I lived at the time. I have two or three other choice stories to illustrate that the decision did not come soon enough.

ok ok ok
You Guys, He said he is going to part it out. I will post the VIN when I get home tonight. You talk about karma….. I didn’t want to bite the hand that was trying to help me. He DID NOT put the screws to me. As Bill Ball said, I paid junk price and took a chance. It didn’t work out. and the comment about hmmmm 6000 and he only paid 2700… you seem to forget, THEY asked me what I would take for the car before I weighed all my options. If they were willing to pay 6000.00 that would have made up my mind of what I was going to do with the car. good luck to all. maybe someday i willl revisit a 928. I sure have learned a bunch. I also have a new dash pad set from 928 intl. i paid i think about 130.00 ill take 200.00 ( just kidding its going with the car.) many thanks to Rich at electronik repair

OK, SA. The 2700/6000 thing was not clear. Do keep shopping. There are plenty of perfectly good 928s for not a lot of money. Even without the TBF, you probably would have put more into the interior restoration that you started and other mechanicals than it would have cost had you just bought a decent example. That's almost always true. Agreed, this is how most of us learn.
