Mine is an 83 bro, the 4spd A/T was stock in my ride(not sure about the high stall 2500+ RPM converter though, i suspect that's a PO modification). Sorry i couldn't help.

Yeah, you're nuts IMO.

Default 1st Gear Starts

I've never understood why S4 AT owners don't flock to older trannies ('85/'86 and early '87) because of the fact that those start and shift down to 1st gear from "D". I've had both and it's like a whole different car. So, as I say, if I were into autos I'd be all over those. As well as the 2.54 and 2.73 Euro AT boxes.

GMan I'd happily trade you a 3spd box for your 4spd.

As to the first gear starts.... you could probably get this functionality by going to someone who knows MBZ trannies and have a little valve body work done.

I'm sure you could. Should just be a matter of changing the check valve spring pressures in the valve body.

Hi H:

Of course, you know this - I just want to make sure nobody thinks you need to swap trannies to get 1st gear starts. Just pull the selector from D to 2 as you come to a stop and you get 1st gear from the line. The later AT drops into 1st below 6MPH. I start out with the selector in 2, at redline oor wherever I want, I move the handle to 3 briefly and back down to 2 for the shift to 2nd gear, etc. I like controlling the shift points by moving the handle, so leaving it in D and still getting 1st is not something I miss.
