Default Rear window wiper question

My rear window wiper motor turns now that I added a new switch, however, the lever does not levatate the wiper arm. My question is, how do you remove the plastic cover panel on the rear deck. It looks like it just pulls down, with a little prying and the removal of the latch bolts. True? I have looked at the service manual which is not very helpful and PET. So before I do serious damage I thought I would ask the experts!
Thanks

Not sure exactly where you are talking about. Do you mean that the coupling at the hatch is not engaging? Or that the lever on the hatch itself is not rotating the wiper arm? Or that the motor is not turning the lever that is on the jamb above the tool tray?

Geee I don't know. I hit the switch and I can hear the motor go thunk-it-thunk and the wiper pretends to move a little, but doesn't. That clear it up?

Yes, it seems to be one of the three things I mentioned.

Seriously, open the hatch with the wiper motor running. If the lever in the tailgate is moving, see if it will move against some resistance(don't hurt yourself). Also see if it springs back up when you press down on it(not too hard). Possibly it's not springing back up like it should, and it can't engage. Also, does it look like the pin has been engaging or just scraping along?

With the hatch open and the wiper lifted off the glass, see if the wiper arm and the lever inside the jamb seem to be solidly connected together.

You'll need to fiddle with it some and get more info to help narrow it down...

What Sharkskin said.
I had to remove a latch spacer to let my rear hatch close a little tighter in order for my wiper arm pin to engage the moving plate on the tail gate. I'm not sure where other adjustment possibilities are located.
Good luck.

There are a series of small connectors that hold it on. They look like they are one piece, but in reality the top will pull out and that's what expands the connector to hold it in place. DON'T just pry them off. If you grip the top with pliers or use a small knife, you can get the tops off and then you're home free.

When you get the cover off, you can easily remove the wiper drive unit from the hatch. IF you remove the rubber grommets, be very careful, they love to fall down inside the hatch lid frame. Then you get the coat hanger - you can go in through the rubber hatch bumper by unscrewing it - and push/pull it back to the opening. Once wasn't enough for me. I had to do it twice.

Shark skin.
Now I understand how it works. The shaft in the upper hatch won't whip the wiper. It slips.

Ron Underwood.
Thanks. I guess I'll have to pull it to get at the mechanism to see what is wrong and why the lever slips.

Before you start taking things apart, make sure the nut attaching the wiper arm to the shaft is tight. Slippage at this point is a common problem. Then make sure the pin that is attached to the wiper on the inside of the hatch fully engages with the actuator connected to the motor. If the nylon pin is worn down, it can be easily fixed with a small screw and a nylon bushing. There is a good write-up on this repair in the archives.

Lawd. Lawd. The power of experience and the internet. A big Thank you. Tightened the wiper nut and it works like Dr. Ferry intended. Happy camper here!!!
