Default Vacuformed headlight delete covers

I decided I need a set of acylic headlight covers vacuum formed for my headlight setup. (I want the covers to look like resting 8" H4/5's.)

I'm having the form made, but I need only four covers made at the plastic place. Anyone else want some for their (race) car in the same run?*

2.5mm clear acrylic, 1" flange, 8.75" base circle, tapering up 1.25" to a flat plateau

This would cover the hole in the fender after the entire moving headlight system is removed and a (for example) HID system were installed?

Cheers,

You know I'm in Ken. I will send paypal after you say go.

I do need the actual brackets for the headlights you are making soon. I know the covers make take some time, but the car will go infor color next week or so. I will be putting the engine in adriving it very soon after that. *I hope*

Dave,

Yes, this will fill the round opening, and stick up out of the hole to make it look like a Euro headlight. The flange will seal it from the underside of the fender (the cut on the flange is for engine side of the headlight hole).

I guess 'cover' is a misnomer, it's more of a plug.

I will be making some sort of (no drill) bracket to hold it in place for my setup, but that's not included in this price. I will make it available if people need that, once I figure it out.
...

Brendan,

I already factored your covers into my original total. I can fab the brackets 'in about an hour'. Are you going to paint them body color?

Richard,

Once I have my setup all sorted out, I'll have a better idea. The brackets I have now would only work with the low only HID, which have the same housing as the halogens. The low/high (bi-zenon) lights are the same price, and would be better, I think, for the S4 (since you don't have the room in the bumper like OB's do for the highs to go there) but they have a different mounting plate.

I was just looking at the light site, and these are the new shizzle, 50mm:

The housings are much smaller than the 90's; I reckon I could fit the HID low and high in the headlamp hole, without the beam cutoff problem I had with the 90's. They're cheaper than the HID 90's too.

I'll probably go that route when they are available.

Perhaps we could beg of the 'IceShark' guy, over in 944 land, to order some of those; he can get Hella stuff, supposedly.

I showed the rough negative form to the plastic guy, and he realised that I could just as easily make a positive form, which would allow me to have the taper and rounded edge that I wanted.

(There's another piece that looks like a picture frame, which clamps the acrylic down over the plug.)

I'll take it to the plastic shop sometime this week, hopefully. They'll drill out the (sealed, empty) box for the vacuum connection, and holes for forming.

Hey, there's an Odd chance I may have a connection at Hella.

What are the replacement light #'s? Any other Hella parts needed?

(Rumor had it that my Brother In Law might go to work for Hella--I don't know if he can get stuff cheap, but if I have #'s, I may be able to find out...).

Thanks!!

I got the sample back, and it showed the wood grain, unfortunately, so I ordered a laser cut aluminum disc to go on top of the form, to make it smooth. It need to be a little taller anyway, as it turned out.

It's difficult to photograph clear things!

Never mind the dirty car!

Ken-
Why not put a skim coat of bondo on your mold. Then sand any imperfections out. Seems faster than having aluminum lasered. Just my $0.02.

I agree with drnick - the front/lower end should not be as high as the top/upper end.

Have you considered making a "Bubble" with partially masked off areas like they did on the 928-4 for Ferry Porsche?
