Default Lambo Doors

It's a means to an end if that makes sense, my 928 is under constant fire from my 4 & 5 year old kids and their fiendish friends!, the words PORSCHE and I WILL KILL YOU mean little to them and my baby is sporting a number of scratches.
I have to park in the driveway as I can't park in the garage as it isn't wide enough to get out once parked, I've considered "losing" the kids but a bad penny always turns up!,buying a bigger house/garage, just sitting in my car in my garage gaurding my 928, but all these solutions my wife finds fault with!!
Then I see Lambo doors, these give the option of the standard door entry as well as the vertical lift, problem solved or is it?- anyone ventured down this path?
The fact that the kit I've seen offers both opening options floats my boat, I'm not really into the flash of Lambo doors or opening vertically on a windy day, it just seems a means to an end.
Kit starts at around £700 sterling(fit yourself) and a re-spray ££££ and a coninues problem, I'm a barking up the wrong tree- WHAT THINKS YOU?

Set an example. You can't have them growing up thinking they can say things they don't mean. Knock off the youngest first. You have the least invested in that one.

I think you might have an easier time turning it into a convertable - then you could just hop in and out without opening the doors.

But screw the lambo doors - I want to see a shark with SUICIDE DOORS!

I've seen a few Honda's with these kits installed. The doors still open about 1/4 - 1/2 the normal distance, then go up. So they might not solve your problem.

Why not just climb out the hatch?

I've seen and tried many of the custom installations. Most feel as if they are cheap and somewhat odd in opening the door quite a bit than lifting them ... depending upon quite the complexity to work... all of them scare me for long term reliability. We decided to shy away from them on our 928's.

I am also interested in these types of doors. What did you mean by "we" Tony?

ehhh not to be the guy that says he'll kill you, but just a suggestion

Why not go with Enzo doors or a style that is similar to a gull wing but is hinged at the A-pillar??? That would look cool.

I have seen those pics before. Jaquemond used to offer the type of door that is not quite vertical. Kind of a cross between gullwings and lambo's. I have heard alot of people say negative things about these types of doors for the 928 but they are all very vague. What are the problems, if any, with installing these types of doors on a 928. As far as a "cheap feel", I know there are lots of different types of hinge with a vast array of costs and quality. Any first hand or second hand knowledge would be appreciated. Thanks.

One of my clients recently had Lambo doors installed on his new BMW 645cic. The work was done by a local custom shop with a good reputation. I have to say that the results looked very shoddy. The doors felt fragile when you operated them, and the fit and finish of the hinges and hardware was extremely poor. Everyone who saw the car from a distance thought it looked cool; but, as soon as they got close enough to open the doors and inspect the workmanship, they thought the car had been ruined. The client got rid of it, at a huge loss, after only a couple of weeks.

Guess there's no kit for sliding doors.
Like 'em, ahem, minivan sliding rear doors.

I just spoke with a friend of mine who lives elsewhere and had these type of doors installed on his new 350z . He said that they fit well and did not leak. He did however, notice some additional wind noise after the install. He seemed pleased with them but felt that once the novelty wears off they are just a P.I.T.A . I guess the installation and hinge quality is critical. I saw them install some on "pimp my ride" and they said they were using top of the line hinges that cost $5,000. Thats pretty steep for hinges. I suppose I will have to wait on this technology to catch up to demand or just forget it alltogether. What a shame.
