Default SCAMMER WARNING-- Spare tire covers ( 8maze8 )

Mine was clear plastic. Were they all made of this? I just paid 45.00 on Ebay for a piece of particle board that was cut free hand and painted with a can of spraypaint. What a rip off. The ad said that it is made of the "same material that all current porsche and audi's come with". What do newer P-cars come with? I had originaly planned on buying som lexan and cutting it to shape and then re-applying my factory stickers onto it. But when I saw this one on ebay I thought " why make one when I can get the real thing at a good price". Boy do I feel foolish.

EDIT ADDED ** I just did a search on the seller, 8maze8 and now I see that he is a well known scammer. Great. DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS GUY!!!

Oh, no. There is a guy who is infamous for selling this junk on eBay.... the sellers initials (not eBay name) are RH. Be glad you got anything.

The one on my 89 is clear sort of corrugated plastic. Not sure about earlier cars.

If you bought it from the guy I'm thinking of, you're lucky you got anything. He changes his Ebay id like you change shirts. Anyway mine was also plastic.

My 79 OB has an original particle board cover. I think my 1980 has the plastic one.

I sell a legitimate polycarbonate product to replace the spare tire cover.
It is black plastic and lightweight, but not broittle like the clear stock ones.

And, if you get it and do not like it, you can return it.
We have never had any returned.

He should get some negative feedback from you. Lack of negative feedback is not real reliable unless the seller has hundreds of feedback reports, and even then you have to examine the feedback. Best to contact someone who has bought the same item from the seller and see if they are satisfied.

928 Intl lists used spare wheel covers for $60.

The original fiberboard (early cars)is a shaped molded piece and not just a flat panel.

I can vouch for Carl's board. Even though it's flat, it does fit nicely, is sturdy and looks right at home. No complaints from me

Mine in my '86.5 is corrugated plastic, and it is fragile. I would like an original to tuck away somewhere, but it's not a top priority. I baby mine along though it is already a bit buggered up on some edges. One of these days I'm probably likely to break it by placing large heavy objects in the back. (No, not dead bodies. I use my grocery-mobile to go to the farmer's market and buy lots of fruits and veggies in crates). Maybe Carl's would be better for that purpose. I guess I could use my Rabbit though I like to drive the shark. The problem will soon be decided once and for all with the gas prices increasing by the hour.

My 83S has a clearish corrugated plastic, too. Not a particularly impressive material. Was probably cooler 23 years ago.

Thanks Champaigne. Yes, that clear corrugated plastic thing they went to is pretty frail. Ours is flat, but very tough. Sells for less than the Porsche replacement, too.

Hey Carl, is it stiff enough to use without the spare tire? My problem is I took the spare tire out so I can't put anything on that side because the original cover will cave in.
