Default Will 255/40's fit a 10" rim?

I've got wheels and some tires. Doesn't look like they would, but I thought I should ask.

If it is a 255/40-17...YES. 10" is the max width recommended. 9" is optimal width for that size.

I would recommend going to the tire manufacturerers web site and check what they say. The Michelin web site says that their 255/40 17 and 18 inch sizes fit between 8.5 and 10.0 inches safely

Are they going to be hard to mount? I assume they'll have to put a strap around the tread t blow out the beads?

They shouldn't have to. So long as they have enough compressed air pressure and volume of air the beads will sit.

Depends on the tire manufacturer. I always use TireRack to check minimum and maximum rim widths. Here's Pilot Sport Cup page. It shows 255/40-17 at 8.5 - 10 inch.

Michelin SX are the tires. Discontinued and can't find much info on them.

I'd call tirerack and ask. They may not be on their website anymore, but they'll have the specs.

here's something I found:

I just checked the TireRack, and the 245/40-17 Michelin Pilot SX MXX3s
that I need (recommended size) to match the rears I already have are not
available. Looking at some back issues of Profiles and PI I noticed
mention of using 255/40-17s and I've also seen 245/45s mentioned. The
255s are only .3 in taller so that doesn't seem like too big of a
problem, but they would stick out (and in) 5mm (~1/5") more which may be
a problem. The 245/45s are an inch taller. Does anyone have either of
these sizes?
..
Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Difference
245/40-17 3.9in 12.4in 24.7in 0.0%
255/40-17 4.0in 12.5in 25.0in 1.3%
245/45-17 4.3in 12.8in 25.7in 3.9%

scot runs 305x35x18s on a 10"rim, and so do some of the 911s

275x40 is a perfect fit on a 9.5" rim.

Also keep in mind that the tire widths are not so determined by the spec, but the wheel they are fitting on . for example , a 335 on a 11" rim is the same width as a 305 on the same rim. (maybe 1/8" wider, but still very close)

If your looking at the MXX3's I would try the Pilot Sport ribbed. It is the same tread design as the MXX3 with a better rubber compound it is Porsche approved and replaces the MXX3. Factory size for the GTS on 9 inch rears is the 255/40-17. I put the PS2's on the car and boy what a major improvement over the MXX3's. They are softer yet grip and handle better. There is virtually no tire noise and wet traction is superb with the best dry traction I have ever experienced. They don't let loose in tight turns the way the MXX3's did. I don't expect to get much tread life but at 3k miles a year max driving I think they should last 6 years before they need to be replaced for age anyhow.

Quick Reply: Will 255/40's fit a 10" rim?
