or how about video of one of the only bone stock (but gutted and a set of headers) 20 year old 928s running the exact same times as the new 997 and 996s with the best drivers in the world at Laguna seca as i do in that "old, lazy" 928. Lets see Phil run a 1:40.2 in ANY stock 911 with a set of headers!
by the way, did i mention that its 20 years old too, with not one bolt turned on the engine since it came off the assembly line in 1986!

Bad publicity is still publicity. I checked out the rag at the stands. Not enough variety for me, and pictures of the same press cars tha appeared in all the other publications.
This isn't the only mag that rags on the 928. GT contantly complains that the 928 isn't a true classic, even though their readers voted it the #2 or 3 Porsche of all time. However, Sports Car International writers repeatedly listed the 928 as one of the top ten cars of the 80s.
But lets get real. The 928 is not a 911 and it is never going to drive like a Lotus Seven. I wouldn't expect Totally 911 to cotton to the idea that the new 911 is the modern version of the 928, a rumor that has been circulating for some time. I personally think that the Cayman is the new 911, and there is a reason that Porsche is holding a limit on its performance. It would kick the king's butt is all.
Enough about that. The real issue is the new X pipe and RMB that I'm thinking of getting. Oh yeah, the new 911 IS the modern 928, and the Cayman is the new 911. I'd like to see them print THAT letter.

It's a 911 mag so it is expected. It's his opinion. What's the big deal?

Sometimes I think we in the 928 community are too defensive. If you play the victim, you are the victim. These are great cars, among the best ever. We don't need to prove anything to anyone. Let the ignorant stay ignorant on this one. The truth seekers will see the light when a surprisingly stock 928 goes around them on a track somewhere. Values are starting to reflect reality. See what a 928 GT or a 5 speed S4 goes for these days? Do you see where prices are now for 996s? And by definition the 928 is at least TWICE AS OLD.

Who the hell is Phil Raby anyway? He obviously doesn't know much about cars.

Just proves the point that only those with something to lose have to obey the rules....

This guy has a financial interest at risk, and instead of paying attention to optimizing that aspect of his P car hobby, he hasta go make snot nosed remarks about other models.....Pat soundly kicks him in the ***** over it, get's him to apologize and the dumb bastard goes and does it again....seemingly out of spite for having had his *** handed to him.....What????? Didn't he think our resident 928 rottwieler was gonna look to see if he was minding his manners?

raby got exactly what he deserved.....'cause his friggin ego is more important than his business venture.......tells you something about who this guy is in real life......a smart *** who thinks it is funny, and his devine right, to insult other people.....

Pat, you are without-a-doubt, ABSOLUTELY over the top on occasions.......but this was not one of them. Even I was willing to let the first instance go after the ripping it engendered....but raby coming back for seconds immediately??? Well the only way to deal with a bully is to give him a GOOD SOUND THRASHING. HOO RAH........An I bet she ain't lazy either....how the hell could she be.....living with a triple type A like you, DoubleNutz.....

First, the times speak for themselves. Grand Am Cup GS class, this year at Laguna seca. Darren Law, one of the top rated porsche drivers in the world, runs a 996 stock but with ecu changes and gutted with the trick suspension set up to a time of 1:40. There was also the porsche 997 (rated at 355hp stock) driven by Rosser and another pro driver running 1:40s too.
Lets see, Mark kibort drives a 20 year old porsche 928 with a much cheaper suspension, similar weight and hp ratings , same tires, (probably worse as mine are true garbage can tires) and to a time of 1:40.2.
Hmmm, either im the greatest driver in the world, or the car is not half bad. certainly splitting hairs to say the 911 or 928 handles any better than the other.

comparing Andersons or Hansons car is not a good comparison as we are talking the root car. the Holbert car is the 928 in its raw form, with little mods and no changes to any of the engine components, suspension bushings, etc.
also, as a note, it wasnt even the best 928 made. heck, i would love to be tracking a GTS!!!!!!!!

video running against an average club driver in a GT3cup car is posted at :
