Jim.
Most Oil sales companies will have the Delvac. I use it in the dodge, but it only comes in 4 gallon units at about $102 each box.
Try the Mobil SUV. It is the same.
Thanks,
Garrity

"m21, 15w is too heavy for winter use in the northeast. use 5w50 year round."
Does mobil 1 make 5w50?(i used to use the valvoline full synthetic 5-50 in my T-Type, but i think they discontinued the stuff).
Technically 15 is a bit on the thick side for the NE, but i've really not had any problems with it in 3 years. Full synthetic is a lot more slippery than 15w conventional, so even with identical grades the synthetic will flow better. On the cold side i've read it flows like std 10w40 conventional.

These guys are discussing if SUV is the same after doing an OA.
Fun stuff to learn about and as Doug says, "oil ain't oil".

They looked at quite a few different tests as well.
When I talked to the mobil rep about a year ago, it was the same stuff. He just didn't want to let it out.
Good luck!

In that case you can get it at WalMart. And no, I don't shop at WalMart. The place scares me.

I've used Delvac 1 in just about everything I have, gas or diesel, and it's about to go into a 996tt.
In passenger car usage, about your only payback is the extra long OCI, or the fact you are using what Exxon/Mobil calls "Supreme performance oil"

I switched over (in the spring) to Mobil1 Truck and SUV 5w40 as like other have said, it was re-badged Delvec. It definitely is synthetic and is a little more than regular Mobil1 15w50 - oh, and I bought it at WalMart!
I was concerned about my oil pressure but I've had absolutely no issues with it dropping low on the gauge or the light coming on. I'm down in South Texas where's it's more than just warm during the summer. So far, so good I guess.

BTW, I have used Mobil 1 15/50. I decided to try Castrol Syntec 5/40 and got a low pressure warning at the end of the last open road race when I came to a stop and sat idling to cool down. I expected pressures to run lower (but flow to be potentially higher) with the lower weight oil, but the warning caused me pause. I immediately killed the motor and waited until the engine cooled on its own before starting back up. No problem otherwise, but for very hot weather and exterme conditions like 170MPH in 95F degree heat, I think I'll stick with 15/50.

Over the past ten years or so, a lot of discussion has gone on regarding the Castrol Syntec product, up to some legal wrestling over whether it qualifies as a "real" synthetic. I'm not going to open that debate, but the facts that came out of the discussion have steered me clear of Syntec. The biggest telltale for me was the gradual change in color over the course of a couple years. When I first started using it, it was an economical alternative to Mobil-1, came out of the bottle a very pale yellow. By the end of the following year, new oil was coming out of the bottle darker than I expected to see it come out of the car. Mobil-1 was still pale yellow, didn't look like it was used before I even put it in the car, etc. Once I found that I coule buy Mobil-1 in a 5-quart bottle at Wal-Mart for less than the Syntec in quarts, I switched back to Mobil-1 and have used it ever since. This was in severe-service summer towing duty in the truck, a much harsher duty than my 928 ever sees.
I suspect that, for us normal grey-haired street drivers, conventional oil is more than adequate even if you follow the factory-recommended change intervals. I change the oil about once a year or every five thousand miles, and the age gets to me long before the mileage limit. I still have a few years' worth of Mobil-1 on the shelf, so what the heck.
Has anybody noticed any price incraeses on motor oil yet? If gasoline can jump 40% in a year, motor oil can't be far behind. I can still buy Mobil-1 at Wal-Mart without fretting over Indonesian chlid labor issues, right?

I just went through and compared the physical properties chart of each and they are identical.
Everything I have been able to find says the Delvac and the Mobil 1 SUV are exactly the same, well except for the price. The SUV is available at Walmart for $20 gallon.
I'm going in.
