BUMPERS - The aluminum channel that holds the fog and driving lights in place weighs 30 pounds! And yes, the front polyurethane molded cover will retain its shape very well without it.

In general, it is easier to get weight off the rear of the 928 than the front, so this makes the "bumper delete" a hot spot. 30 pounds is a bunch when you are down to shaving pounds-at-a-time elsewhere...

But: is it really a good idea on the street-driven 928? This aluminum bumper ties your two front 5 mph bump-shocks in place, and without it, you loose your "5 mph " bumper.

Compromise option: after removing the front cosmetic cover, take a RotoZip or hole saw and lighten the aluminum bumper aircraft-style. You can remove about half the weight in a matter of hours (about 15 pounds). This method also allows you to keep your driving and fog lamp attachment points.

Sunroof! Carbon fiber inserts have been known to exist along with Polycarbonate ones as well. I'm guessing there's about 25-35 lbs to lose in panels, motors, transmissions, and rails if your thorough. Also, it's at the best spot to lose weight.

Stock US exhaust: Weighs in at almost 100lbs!

I replaced it with a no-cat 3" custom Borla XR-1 single exhaust. Total system weight 22lbs.

Replace the 42lb boat ancher....errr....battery with a 14lb drycell.

Factory power seats are about 50lbs each.(I replaced them with 19lb ea. racing seats)

Air pump assy is about 15lbs

A/C system is about 40lbs

Cam covers(16v motors only) are about 6-8lbs

Club sport 16" rims are the lightest avialable

Going from the factory clutch fan/OEM electric to a single aftermarket electric is about another 10lbs

So ends the 'off the top of my head' list, lol.

Remove the parking brake: about 4 lbs.

Spare tire and assosciated tools: about 30 lbs.

The other "spare tire" some drivers carry with them: 10-100 lbs....he he.

Here's my lastest list: (My deletes) in the thread: (928 Weight Loss)

The stuff in/on the doors is real heavy. Anti-slim-jim plates, steel intrusion bars, lock motors, speakers. Flag mirrors are way heavy.

Cam covers? Not sure what that is. You're not talking about the timing belt covers, are you? They seem too light (plastic) to weight that much.

Putting most 928 drivers on a diet would likely shed 30-40 pounds.....

I already disappear when I turn sideways...

This is a valid point. Losing 40 pounds is....losing 40 pounds off your road-going weight. I weigh about 150 pounds; some guy who weighs 210 pounds with the same car as me installs 19 pound racing seats; in the end it only works out the same!

Don't forget emptying your window washer reservoirs, if you haven't already deleted them entirely.

Weight savings from lack of fluid: 16 lbs (more or less depending on fill level).

I meant timing covers.

You're forgetting about the hardware. My estimate is pretty close.

I did the rear wiper delete and antenna delete while I was at it. Saved 6-8 pounds and got a cleaner looking epinage for a bonus.
