How To Upgrade Solid (OB) Motor Mount To Late Model Hydraulic Mounts
There have been many threads on the board about motor mounts. I was interested in replacing my '79 old body style mounts to the later style mounts - but it wasn't clear whether it could be done or what was involved. Below is the link to a writeup I did to help out others who might be interested in this change. Thanks to John Veninger for input and a place to post it.

Great Stuff. I got much advice, but still had to find out the hard way.

Nice PDF.
OT, but I wonder why they switched from the original design mount, shown in the WSM, where you could change the mounts without dropping the rack?

Someone wiser then I, JP, was the one to say I needed to swap. That was on the email list.
There was also another that said it was not needed. That would be avery wobbly connection between the member and the mount without that flat area. *wince* Trust me, I tried.

Brendan, I may have been the one to mention this several years ago. I tried to install an 84 Euro S motor in the 1980 928 with the early crossmember. I simply bolted the newer style mounts to the early crossmember (measured and drilled necessary holes) but found out that the engine would not fit between the mounts when lowered in the engine bay. New style mounts were too close together on an old style crossmember. About an 1.5 inches too close, oil pan will not allow engine to drop into place. Just like the write-up, get a new style crossmember. Easy swap.

PorKen, I'm guessing, but those hydraulic pucks really weren't available before the early 80's, I don't believe - so Porsche did not have them as an option when designing the mechanicals. Perhaps they looked at it when they were working on the 944 and decided to extend that design to the 928? It eliminated those shocks and likely provided better isolation anyway.
