Gear Selector Plate Illumination Upgrades in Later Models?
What have folks done to add illumination to the PRND32 on the shifter plate in the center console of later model cars?
The early models had stock illumination of the indicator positions here, but later models rely on the illuminated instrument cluster indicator, leaving the center console indicators dark.
I know there have been previous discussions about this upgrade, but am wondering if there are any new approaches using lighting kits, LEDs or Electrolume panel lighting.
Has anyone added lighting and upgraded the shifter plate to another type - like Jager's aluminum version with PRND32 cutouts?
Thanks.

Interesting idea, although I wouldn't want a bright/LED indicator for my drive selection (next to shifter), especially at night - it would be too distracting. Although having a choice of colors (other than white) might be interesting.

Here's a previous discussion on this upgrade, but the pictures no longer show.

I have one of the 928 Specialists kits that Wally's referring to. I've got a full leather boot now, so if anyone's interested, let me know.

I bought the kit some time ago from DEVEK, and still haev it untouched. I won't install it now that I have a new shifter plate that isn't "shine through". And I found that I really don't miss the indicators at the shifter, since I look at the dash anyway. Rather, I miss the indicators in the dash on my other car, that does not have them, yet...

Sorry...i forgot to snap a pic. I'll get it tomorrow.
The light is powered by tapping into the connection for the ashtray light.

Here's what the 928 Specialists kit looks like. I used the ashtray light to power the unit. I didn't want to splice or cut any wiring, so I got a "Y" adaptor (kind of) from Radio Shack. It's a regular female wire terminal that has another male terminal branching off of the side. With it, you can plug the light onto the the male ashtray light terminal and then connect the power source to the extra male end on the adaptor.
The lightbulbs are regular (non-LED).

Hey, Big Dave:
If you use the clock light instead of the ashtray for the electrical source and it will dim with the dimmer switch.
