Custom illum. shifter display
While I was in deep checking climate control vacuum leaks I got a wild hair up my a$$ and decided to try to illuminate the lower shift indicator (I always thought it was kind of dark down there)web page

Dave,
I bought all the materials at Radio Shack, the 6 LED's are blue 5mm, 5 volt, 30ma. I liked the look of the blue and thought it would be less intrusive, they are a bit more expensive though $2.99 ea. VS about .50 for standard red, green, yellow and orange. I used two 5 volt regulators about $1.50 (small black parts in the pic's) to drop the voltage from 12 to 5, each reg. is good for only 1 amp at 5v and the LED's draw 30 ma each 3 of them add up to 90 ma or 9/10th's of an amp so I connected 3 LED's to each one. On the back of the shifter plate I used a soldering iron to make divits behind each number and letter in the white translucent plastic and used a two part epoxy to glue them in place. If I were to do it again I would use LED's listed as wide angle so more of the light comes out the side (the one's I used project mainly out the top). I haven't had the time to hook it back into the car yet but will prob. tie it to the climate control illum. wire. Some of the fiber optic feeds in the climate control unit have broken off, thats next for repair if possible. Sorry for the long reply but hope it helps.

I hope you're right, but I didn't see it there.
If anyone knows how to find an easy kit to do this modification, please let us know!

Nicole/Dave-
Yep - 928 Specialists offers a kit that will illuminate the shift positions in the Center Console. I don't have my records with me (at work), but I do seem to rememer <$20 total. Installs in about 45 seconds.
I'll post later tonight with the p/n's if you're interested.

If you can find the part number, I'd like to know. I've thought that shift indicator needed illumination since I bought the car.
I've searched 928 Specialist's web site and can't find it.

big dave,
part numbers for the shift illumination kit:
922.424.191.00 bracket
999.591.462.02 light clip (2 needed)
928.612.172.01 harness
900.631.102.90 bulb (2 needed)
or you can just call 928 specialists and they'll put it together for you for about $20.
works like a charm.
