Default Drive podless?

I have two tasks relating to pod removal on my 84US a/t. I would like to pull the speedo for repair (odometer is accurate but speedo reads 10-20mph low) and I would like to get crack in pod fixed. My question is can I re-attach and rig the instument cluster to run without the speedo and sort of tape the switches into temporary clusters while the pod is being fixed and still drive the car? If the peedo is needed to run I might get an exchange rebuilt speedo before I pull the old one.
Now I know it will be very tempting to make wisecracks about driving without a speedo or without a pod. Seriously though I can't see why this couldn't be done.
Thanks,
Dave Mc.

It can be done but be carefull that none of your wires or elect connectors are touching each other or ground or you might end up with a ton electrical "Gremlins"?

Sure. Just be carefull none of the switches (lights, defroster, etc.) short out against each other - probably wrap the contact areas with black tape.

Couldn't you use the down time to fix something else instead of inventing a temp pod. Just remember the t belt light maybe the difference in spending a few hours or several weeks in the garage fixing the problem.

I'd see if you can 'borrow' a yucky pod from someone...check with Rixter - he usualyy has a few sitting around.
Not worth the risks of a short!

If it's just the pod that you need, get a refinished one from Dan the Pod Man - he'll send you one, you install it and send him back your bad one.

You can remove just the speedo from the instument cluster and send it to a repair shop.

There's one that several folks here have used, but I don't have the link handy - perhaps someone can post it.

I'm sure Dan does good work, but I've gotta put in a plug for Rixter the Pod Fixter. He fixed the cracks in my pod and it looks GREAT! Couldn't be happier. I've been slacking but pictures to come soon.

thanks Victor! I've been waiting to see pics of it installed...
the "fix" I do takes about 3 days w/curing time, give or take a day
if you want a "loaner" just pm me... you pay for shipping both ways and you can "borrow" it for 30 days no charge

if anyone has a pod they DON"T WANT OR NEED and are willing to GIVE it away please let me know.. I'll pay shipping, fix it and get it back into circulation to needy shark owners CHEAP

you must be ill today Randy...
per the powers that be, that would violate Rennlist rules
https://rennlist.com/forums/the-abyss/212855-if-you-are-not-a-rennlist-sponsor-and-promote.html

however... since people here know they are welcome to pm me for details
I basically break even on repairs IF THAT when you consider my time... this is more of a "favor" to the 928 community than a business deal
a couple before and afters of a pod I did for someone on the list.. also have pics of dashes I've done

Yeah, but the other pod guy's not a Sponsor either. It's one thing to refer folks to a non-Sponsor, it's another if they self-promote.

For niche services such as this, I tend to allow some latitude for the benefit of the community at-large.

There is a pull up resistor in the voltmeter that provides the trickle excitaiton for the alternator. So, basically your alternator will probably not charge as well, or perhaps not at all.
