Default Valentine placement

OK, here is the dumb A$$ question of the day.
Where do you find the best placement for the V1 in order to get the best back and front coverage? I am thinking just below the rear view mirror so as to avoid the back roof silouette. Headin' out X-country on friday.

That is where mine is and I get great coverage front and back with it. I know this from much experience. Just remember if your cruis'n at 80 with the window down to turn up the volume so you can hear a warning. One again, experience.

I keep mine exactly where you described. As high as possible while still clearing the rear hatch is the best bet.

If you place it above the mirror, the sun visor will conflict with it in the down position and you will be forced to choose between coverage from the rear and being blinded by the sun, or to cut rear coverage until the sun moves. I choose the upper location and have not experienced any loss of rear coverage. I choose the upper location to lessen the visibility of the V-1 to adjacent drivers; if they know you have it you will have found a shadow for as long as your journey and theirs coincides. They will not pass you, but will slow with you. They will strive to keep up with you. And they will politely stay back about three car lengths. That is also one of the reasons my remote is hidden from view.

I was looking at my car the other day and really did not like how the V1 was placed on the windshield. It's just too damn obvious that theres a radar detector there. Then I started thinking about mounting it on the sunroof motor cover. It looks like it would give decent coverage front and rear. Combined with the remote display - I think it would be super stealthy. Any thoughts or opinions?

Ron,

I've got my remote display in the same location. Just a heads up if you want an alternative to running conduit behind the steering wheel that you can run the cable to the remote display between the clear plastic pod lens and the pod itself with no fitment or pinching issues. The lens will still fit flush against the pod. What is is LED function? Cool interior color. (Green?)

Let us know how that works out! It sounds like a great idea for a stealthy location!

Andrew,
BTDT - don't bother it sucks!

1) Sunroof cover isn't strong enough it eventually droops!
2) Its in your line of sight mnore than you'd think
3) Sunroof covers are expensive!
4) Passengers heads hit it e.g. my boys 12 & 9
5) It looks really quite hideous
6) Do you really need more....

I've posted my solution several times - see archives. Mount to glass to the right of rear view mirror
see the previously posted photo's.

Ron H,

That's what I'm talkin' about! (re:the speedo in the pic above) Cruising at 80mph, at least around here, means you're getting passed by 40% of the cars on the road!

Adam:

Thanks for the tip. Next time I have the pod off I can try that. The other red light is for a laser "detector" which I don't care to fully describe at this time. The interior is greyish green.

Chadster:

It is that way here.

Sniper:

If questioned I will deny everything. I admit to nothing. I don't understand any of this. I want to speak to an attorney.

Didn't even notice the speedo, that's a riot!

Don't think any kind of detection device is going to save you at that speed, unless you have retro-rockets attached to nose of car. (now what was THAT option code?)

well - I do not have a stock mirror and it won't fit with one. To me it was fortunate that the stock mirrors are such a POC - that I didn't feel at all bad replacing it with a Donnelley ECM (which I think is a fantastic piece of equipment).

Direct glass mount location (note blackout on windshield - blocks sun and hides V1 & wiring from outside)...

Mounting method - half of this mated to the V1 visor mount... Involving creative use of JB weld & toilet bolts... in my defense Roger put me up to it... indirectly

Oh and it had no interference with the visors and has a perfect view forward and rearward. Except for laser detection - I think this is the optimal position for a V1

For laser protection get a blinder at the front license plat or grille area.
