If you're stranded in the desert far away from any of these options, I suppose you could use the yellow stuff...
I had my coolant system flushed when my car went in for A/C 134 conversion 3 years ago. I took the car to the nearest Porsche dealership 3 hrs away and they used 'Blue' coolant. They said it was the latest greatest stuff thats used in all the modern P cars. Car runs at the mid line on the temp guage and hasn't frozen these past 3 winters at -30C so it works.
I was told that most of the non-green coolants and even some of the green coolants are basicly Dexcool with or without the certification. I've seen orange, blue, pink (Honda?), green, purple(VW?), and red that were all claimed to be the latest greatest thing in cooling.
I thought I would bring this back from the past. Getting ready for coolant change and seems to be a lot of choices. I currently have very clean and green in there now and am not interested in "sterilizing" the system, but this thread is from '05' so I'm wondering if there have been any discoveries one way or the other? I would like to do a partial drain and refill. What are suggestions, compatibility, longevity etc. ?
Correct OEM coolant for the Porsche 928 is Pentosin/Pentafrost NF.
It's available most places ....1.5 liter bottles are the ones I use. It's blue.
ONLY ever use distiled water....always distilled only. Also remove both water jackets in the block...you will be surprised how much those hold and the car will hold the proper volume o mixed 50/50 if you fully empty the system. I was unable to reach the drivers side with stock manifolds on the 86 but with headers it was reachable.

If you are doing only a partial drain and refill, go back in with exactly what you have in there now.
Pulling the galley drains to get the old stuff out of the bottom of the block is pretty essential. Coolant goes slowly towards acidic with age and contact with the metal. Draining only half doesn't give you the continuing protection you are looking for when you change the coolant. Changing half is only marginally better than not changing any at all. Get all the old stuff out, and protect the block and head gaskets. I guess you can replace the head gaskets when they fail, assuming there's enough block and head material to support it.

Do you have a source for that? I see on their spec sheet that it's referenced to Porsche part numbers, but I don't see anything linking it specifically to the 928. When I look up those part numbers, all but the last are obsolete. I don't doubt you, it's just confusing trying to connect the dots. Greg Brown recommended Porsche 000-043-305-75 but that's now obsolete. And ironically, it's not on the Pentofrost NF spec sheet. Thanks
