Default 928s in Porsche Panarama Magazine

Was leafing through the new issue at lunchtime and came across the interview with Michael Mauer (new head of styling at Porsche) which is on page 28. He gives his views on the state of design of various new Porsche products and he mentions one older design--the 928 and here is what he says:

"For me the 928 is still an extremely modern car...if you see it on the road it is still so modern."

This reflects what I have heard from the GM/DCX styling folks who go to the "Cars, Caffiene and Croissants" on Saturday mornings at Auto Zone Hobbies on Woodward in Birmingham, MI (a Detroit suburb). They all tell me that the 928 is one of their favorite designs as it was designed "all of a piece" rather than as a series of details and profiles. Several top designers apparently own 928s.

Good to see people "Show love to the Shark".

Just think... this body style was fashioned back in the '70's. Lapine was a genius.

Now that I have one and can look at it everyday, it is one of the most beautyful car ever made. I walk around it and can't fine an angle I don't like. Absolutely stuning.....

and I still look at it in awe - that I actually own one! It was a teenage dream for me to own one...and I'm still pinching myself. I definitely underestimated the attention it gets in public - driving the road or parked. Maybe $omeday I'll be able to get a second one for a daily driver.

I agree, I thought it would wear off, but I still find myself looking admiringly at this car I see every day now.

I find I'm particularly drawn to the details forward of the windshield. Details isn't the right word, because really it's so simple. The curve of the front fenders, and the clean hood and top of the fenders - so simple and elegant.

I once saw a NOVA episode that talked about what makes the most bueautiful things in the world beautiful. It turns out that aside from symetry there is a code, and this code is comprised of a series of angles, curves and placement of those angles and curves in the proper location to the others and that can make anything beautiful, from a human form to architecture, and yes it also applies to automotive design. History does not record that the greatest sculpters, architects, artists, designers understood this code but the one thing that the most timelessly beautiful things thoughtout history have in common are the proper semblance of these angles and curves in relation to each other.
Take for example the AMC Pacer and its close resemblance to the 928 but its a farkin ugly design of a car- change the angles a little bit, place curves in the proper locations and... "WALLAH", the 928 is a modern art masterpiece of automotive design.

Who knows, unknowlingly, perhaps the 928 was designed with the same code of beauty in place. I think it is no secret that the 928 is quite possibly the most copied automobile design in history.

It is IMO the most beautiful car ever built and like the new design chief says, it will always look modern. Like fabric i love the fron t fenders when viewed from about 10 feet behind and 5 feet out from the back corner. Art, just a masterpiece.

But it is also the feel when driving of having the long hood out front and the frog eyes. I always see people notice the headlights when i am driving. The car does get a lot of great comments.

Dandeman, i have said it before and i'll say it again, beautiful car man. And great photo's.

Thanks...I feel "lucky" (or was it the matrix?) to have found this example in such great shape. Next photo shoot will be night shots, more planed and should be stunning as the car is... Coming soon in a thread near you.
