Question Squeaky Clutch Pedal ?

I tried running a search and came up blank.

My clutch pedal started squeaking and it is annoying as hell. I cannot find a way to lubricate it, any suggestions?

The first thing is to determine exactly where it is squeaking - unfortunately, that requires one to be nearly upside down in the foot well with a good light. Then pull on the pedal while placing a finger on each pivot point, spring and push rod through the firewall to locate the source. This has worked for me .... Normally, a shot of decent oil will cure it.

I tried lubricating every pivot point and still the squeak After contorting my body so my head was in the footwell I tried to determine were it is coming from. It appears to be in the linkage were it enters the firewall but can't tell for shure. What a PITA. Not as limber as I used to be. After 20 min of doing this I gave up. I guess I will try again tomorrow.

Believe it or not my '84 S2 clutch pedal broke apart near the pivot, not too long after the pedal started to squeak (means it was really the pedal itself starting to squeak, at its weak spot). So I would recommend you examine the pedal for tears. If the pedal breaks at the wrong moment it could be quite dangerous; I was lucky mine broke in a low speed low traffic situation.

Cheers Thomas

PS: In contrary to the faulty pedal which was hollow like a tube, the Porsche replacement part is solid metal, means design of the clutch pedal was improved at some time.

When mine had the squeaking symptom, we pulled it apart and the TO bearing had chernobled....still worked ok but cherped everytime I pushed in the clutch. It came out in several pieces...........R&R no problem now for 7 plus years..............

Holy Thread Reserection Batman...

Gave a lift to a mate yesterday who pointed out my squeaky clutch pedal, which I have successfully learnt to ignor. Until he reminded me.
A previous half-hearted attempt with squirting oil in joints was to no avail: damn it's crampt down there.

Is there a handy common place for the squeaky clutch pedal?

I replaced the clutch MC pivot pin and the bushings and clevis , this restored the correct tolerance and the squeak went away,
not much in parts about 25.00 but the pedal operation is now quiet

Thanks Mrmerlin.

Still a bit cold for tinkering on the car so a project for early spring as I have a car port not a garage!

Try using a mechanics stethescope on the pivot points etc. Could save on Chiropractic bills....
