Anyone have the Stable Energies FE Mount?
At the advice of some others on rennlist, I purchased a fire extinguisher mount from Stable Energies. The part number says it is for a 928 w/ power seats (which is what I have!), but it seems that the mounting holes do not line up. The bracket is supposed to mount above the metal mount that the seat motors are mounted to, but mine seems to be the wrong shape.
If you have this mount, can you tell me if yours looks like this photo?
I called Stable, but they're closed for the day...
Thanks!

Steve,
I also have the SE mount (same as yours). The only thing I had to do to is to trim a small triangle of metal off of each side of the mount (at the bottom of your picture, and about a quarter of an inch to the outside of each of the outward facing holes). I used my Dremel MotoTool for this and a cutting wheel. It took about 5 minutes total.
Hope that this helps.

Thanks Rob -
Did you have to drill holes in the existing power seat motor mounting bracket in order to screw the SE bracket into it? The bracket that my seat motors are mounted to doesn't seem to have the proper holes to mount the SE bracket.
Thanks again.

Anyone have the Stable Energies FE Mount?
Steve,
I bought the same mount [FEM2] from Stable Energies at the Hershy Swap Meet earlier this year for my 86.5. I have the same mounting issues. Unless I'm missing something, there's no way this bracket can be installed according to the directions that came with it.
Rob, Can you post a pic of your installation?

Jim, Steve,
I bought their mount a couple of years ago and had the same issues. I went back to their shop (passed by on a business trip) and they had to bend the mount to fit 944 seats, which was a perfect angle to bolt to my MY85 seats. I had to drill 4 holes just like the instructions and template they provided with the mount. It seems like some seats might have a 944 frame.
Glen
I will be able to post picture over the weekend, I'm out of town right now without the car.

I was beginning to think that I was going crazy!
Well, either we're both off the deep end, or something's not quite right. Maybe it is an 86.5 issue???

Steve,
Once I had modified the sides of the bracket, it just bolted right in. I did make it a bit easier for me though. I took the entire passenger seat out of the car. That allowed me to work on it at a decent level.

Thanks Glen,
My instructions did not have any template, nor mention anything about bending and drilling. I will try to call SE tomorrow and see what they say.

If you could post a pic, that would be great.

Steve,
My bracket came with a template to drill 4 small holes in the seat frame to bolt the bracket to. The angle was wrong (the bracket was flat) and that's when SE realized that I might have a seat frame from a 944, or it could be from different model year. They bent it like their 944 bracket and then it fit likea glove (after drilling mounting holes).

Steve,
I will take some pictures on Saturday for you (kind of swamped at work...) and post them. I do remember that when I ordered it, the person was very interested in the model year ('89 S4, in my case).

This caught my eye because I do have the SE mount... for non-power seats. I have hacked it up quite a bit though, to lower the mounting position and incorporate the safecraft quick release bracket. Sorry I can't help with your situation...

I just spoke with Laurette at SE. She was very pleasant and helpful.
Apparently, they have seen similar issues in MY86 911s and MY86 944s, though she said that I was the first 928. The fix is exactly what Glen said - they have to bend the edges of the bracket, then I have to drill the mounting holes. So, I am going to ship them back the bracket today, they're going to modify it and ship it back.

Update:
I got my mount back, modified for MY86 seats, and installed it today. The install took a little longer than I anticipated (mostly due to getting the seat bolted back in!), but the mount is great!
The seat moves all the way forward and back, and the front tilt can go almost all the way down without rubbing against the extinguisher.
