ac not working
#2
Just had a friend go through this. Start at one end of the system with a volt meter and work your way back....compressor....low pressure switch....freeze switch....head unit....ON switch. His ended up being the relay in not one, but TWO different head units.

Don't jump on that relay w/o evidence. My A/C stopped working, and I thought, yep, it must be that darn flimsy relay everyone says fails. Without even testing it I replaced it. No A/C. OK, so I checked the system to find I had no Freon. Doh!
So, check the Freon first. Then check for 12 volts at the freeze switch (in the cowl). Then at the low pressure switch (near high side port/drier). Then at the black wire that goes to the compressor (from harness right in front of the TB cover over the tensioner).

I guess I sometimes take for granted that someone's going to track it down before replacing things, sorry 'bout that.

As suggested, low on Freon? Jumper the low pressure switch at the dryer is the easiest method to start diagnosis here. Engine on, A/c on, temp set low, if when jumpered the clutch does not engage you prolly low on freon; then check to see if power is getting to the switch. If pressure is the cause, you need to determine why. OEM hoses are permeable, designed to allow high pressure release so as not to damage system. So they do require a shot of freon over time, but not like every year, that would indicate a leak, as would oily spot anywhere on hoses or connections. Leak could also not give oil as evidence. Lots of stuff in archives on a/c. HTH

Yeah, there are variations on a theme with that relay. Do you have a diagram of the relay pins you can post? If not what is the exact radioshack part number?
