Default NEW - 19" Wheel Fitments for your 928 from 928 Specialists

Due to demand from 928ers we now have a selection of 19" Wheels and Tires for all 928s.

At the moment we have 8 different 19" wheel sets and a variety of 19" tire sets. You can see details and pricing on the website http://www.928gt.com, look under "Performance" and then "Wheels" and/or "Tires".

I have been running a set of Kinesis K59 19" Wheels on my 85 Euro using 9.5" wide fronts with 265/30-19 tires (fits perfectly) and 11" wide rears with 315/25-19s (did require fender rolling on the 85, but not on the 90GT). I am VERY happy with how my 85 Euro feels with the 19s and will probably be switching the 90 over to 19s also. The ride is not much different from 18s, but the handling and braking are noticeably more precise.

I know 19s are not for everyone, but for those who want them we now have them for you. Sizes range from 8" to 9.5" fronts and 9" to 11" rears (even larger by custom request).

Here are some photos of my 85 with the 19s and some photos of the 19" wheels sets we currently have available from Kinesis, Forgeline, and SSR. I hope to be adding some more "price-savvy" 19" Wheel sets ASAP.

Thanks DR! You know i was just kidding. Those 19's do look awesome though, I was able to see them quite a bit on the ride to Little Sienna being only two cars behind you.

Dave, glad I waited to "shoe up" the GTS. Can you give some details on rolling diameter's, weights and the possiblility of bending a rim as opposed to 18"? I nixted the 18" HRE wheels I was thinking of. The $5K after it was all said and done with (tires included) was not in my best interest. So any draw backs to the 19" ers?

Thanks!

Hi Keith,

>Dave, glad I waited to "shoe up" the GTS.

:-)

>Can you give some details on rolling diameter's,

Approx 25", same as factory spec. All of the wheel/tires sets I sell are all designed around the 25" 928 tire diameter spec, I am a real stickler when it comes to that. For example the 265/30 and 315/25-19s I am running are 25.1" tall.

>weights

The Kinesis and Forgeline wheel weights for the 19s will be compatible with the other lightweight Forged wheels they sell. The SSR wheels are a little heavier than the more expensive forged wheels, but still not overly so. Technically the 19s will be lighter as you have more wheel (aluminum) and less tire (rubber), and aluminum is lighter than rubber :-)

>and the possibility of bending a rim as opposed to 18"?

Sure the 19s will be more prone to damage as compared to 18's, but same goes for 15-16, 16-17, and 17-18 comparos. Realistically it you hit something hard enough to damage a 19, it would probably damage an 18 or even a 17 wheel. The difference will be in the severity of damage, but replacing a rim half would be required (IMHO) no matter how severe the damage (speaking of 3-piece wheels)

> I nixted the 18" HRE wheels I was thinking of. The $5K after it was all said and done with (tires >included) was not in my best interest. So any draw backs to the 19" ers?

The only real drawback at the moment is price, they are more expensive and mainly limited to the custom wheel manufacturers like Kinesis, Forgeline, etc. Tires are also a little "pricey", but that changes almost daily with newer tires sizes being released. As it stands now the least expensive 19 wheel/tire package costs approx $2980 (SSR GT3 8" front and 9.5" rear with General Exclaim UHP 225/265-19s) and goes up from there.

Ironically just after I made this post I got a call from Brad at BW Motorsports and the newly redesigned 3.6 Turbo 3-piece wheels in 18" Reverse Drop Center AND 19" sizes will start production runs in 3 weeks! If demand is high enough there will also be a 19" Reverse Drop Center style! These will be released the same time as the new Kinesis SuperCup "R" in 18 "RDC" and 19" sizes. Brad also told me I will be pleasantly surprised with the new prices. This is the same style as the wheels I used to have on my 85 Euro (see photo) but redesigned with 19" centers which will be more "open" than the previous version..

Keith,

Speaking of HRE.... Last fall when i was researching Pro's and Cons, cost, durability and weight of different wheel makes and models for fitment to my 86.5 i came across quite a few complaint threads about HRE wheels. The general conclusion I came to with my research(as it concerns HRE) was that the bead/lip of many HRE wheels bend very VERY easily as compared to other "High End" wheel manufacturer's products. I got the feeling that they are more for show than actual hard street or track driving. The one good thing that i consistantly read about HRE is that cosmetically they are second to none. Just my two cents.

The wheels I want for my car cost more than my car.

Do you take kidneys in trade?

Dave,

Those Kinesis wheels look fantastic on your 85! Which ones are you putting on the GT?

I switched over from 17" twists to 19" 997 wheels earlier this year. At the same time, I also installed Eibach springs and Bilstein shocks. The difference between when I drove the car into the garage, and when I drove it out a few days later was amazing. I had read stories about how harsh the ride is with 19" wheels or Bilstein/Eibach coilovers, but I have not found the ride to be harsh in the least. You certainly feel more of the pavement "details", but it is far from the bone jarring experience I had feared. My only regret is that I didn’t do it earlier!

Ben, wasn't aware of the HRE lip bending. They truly are gorgeous wheels. I had contemplated the HRE 841R (7 split spoke with hidden hardware). How ever, it was not only the cost, it was just the only "different" look I could find for what I felt would work on the GTS. I just wasn't completely in love with them...for the GTS. The RH 19" 5 spoke seem like a nice wheel, but too much rim for me. I like to see more spoke and less rim. Kinda like the BW's Dave had...nice wheels, but too much rim.

Dave, you had confidentially sent me a couple pics some months back of 2 different wheel styles coming out this year...any news on them? Was one of them the BW's?

Dave,
I like that those Supercup R's look a lot like the C2's from the early GTS's (except 3 piece & polished?) what is this RDC - is it to do with the somewhat concave hub section? Will the 19's be different ?

Will 265/30-19 on 9.5 wide fronts & 315/25-19's on 11 wide rear fit in the stock GTS fenders without interference? what spacers/offsets does this require - is it really that easy?

Will you be offering wheel/rubber packages also?

Ok now you did it. I am a sucker for the turbo 3.6 wheels in 18". How much and what widths and offsets for the GTS?
