Sunroof motor strength
First of all. Let me just say that I HAVE used the search feature with no luck. Now for the question.
I have a slow and intermittantly working sunroof. I looked through the old posts and used the advice gained there to disassemble my switch and clean the contacts. I also cleaned and re-lubed the sunroof tracks that are visible and accessable from outside the car with the roof open. after doing this I have seen no improvement in the roof function. The switch cleaning did help my passenger window open better, but thats another story. What I need to know is, how do I remove the cover to access the motor for the sunroof. I do not see any exposed fasteners and I don't want to start yanking on it and break something. Thanks.

Thanks for all of your prompt responses. I will look into it tonight. I just didn't want to break anything because of ignorance.
Thanks

Also Fabio, you can hook your fingers just under the front edge(toward engine) of the cover and apply pressure toward the rear of the car. The (I think three) clips will pop out of their slots and then it just pivots down. Re-install is reverse and it will pop right back into place.

You might want to open the sunroof about half-way, remove the three small Phillips screws up inside the edge of the sunroof panel, then carefully remove the inner cover. This will allow you to clean and lube more of the tracks, and to check for loose/misadjusted parts.

I had a thought about the slow sunroof...wondering if a battery on its last legs might be contributing? I have a slow sunroof too and recently discovered my battery is beginning to fade. Any thoughts y'all?

My sunroof was totally inoperable when I bought mine. 30 years of gunk, rust, and other crud had made a happy home in those tubes that hold the cables. A wire brush & few hours of cable clean up followed by some lubricant is what it took to have a seriously smooth sunroof operation. Here's the pictorial that I used: http://reutterwerk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28091

It's currently unhooked due to slow operation. Previous owner unhooked the power until the roof rails could be cleaned. So that is probably all that needs to be fixed. I think I'll wait until fall to do that though. Too stinkin hot outside!!

DONT pull down on the sunroof motor cover!! - side it towards the back of the car - then the front lip hooks will disengage and the front will pivot down - there is a spring wire attachment at the back that needs to slide sideways to remove the back part - will be obvious when you pivot the front down.
If the motor runs OK its probably a slipping transmission (like a friction clutch). If the motor slows or stalls then its probably the motor/switch/wiring.
If its the transmission clutch you need to make sure the panel mooves freely - since binding is probably what causes the cltch slippage inn the first place.
