makes sense, but ive seen it not work out that well. ive even put a cone filter with an adapter that had a bell mouthed inlet right on the MAF, and lost 6hp.
DONT underestimate the stock S4 air box. it is quite good. the only other option you have that actually works, is what mark anderson and joe fan have done, but that requires a 4" tube joined by a y pipe and they feed two throttle bodies on a plenum CF intake.

best to trick out the tubes to the top of the radiator for looks and flow (get rid of the corigated plastic and used brake duct or something custom and seal them to the entrance and exits. OR, us the back of engine compartment with feed holes from the air box to the base of the windshield..

dont worry so much about insulating the tubes. resident time of the air when flowing is not that long and very little heat is transferered to the air charge. especially when you consider the 170+ degree temps of the intake runners and 250 degree temps of the heads the outer diameter of the air flow touches.

wanna test. heat up a metal tube to 170 degrees. take a shop vac and blow air though it. see if it heats the air. (plus, most shop vacs are only 200-300cfm, albiet through a 1.5" diameter hole for high velocity but can make 3psi pressure)

The air would go into the normal two air inlets above the radiator and down the stock inlet air tube to the air box. My plan is to remove the air box and build a bended 3" tube that goes into the intake. The bended T would be wrapped in insulation and the air would hopefully be cooler coming in.

Sterling, you really do not want the larger headers unless you are planning on over 400 rwhp NA.

Once we have confirmed delivery dates, I will post the info.

Where are you at with power?

Kibort
I think Pappy ran a custom Autothority chipset, stock headers, a full custom x-pipe with dual 2.5" and dual high flow cats, a custom torque converter, AMG internal rebuilt tranny(good for 1000+hp), RRFPR, GT cams, 968 valves + some intake work. Last I knew (after his smog problems) he was getting 349rwhp on a dynojet! 4.4 0-60 on street tires! I think he sold the car though?

Sterling,
How much rwhp are you making? Better yet, post the current dyno chart, identify what range you want the power range to be in and I can provide some direction on exhaust design. You needs may even be suitable for a Level 3 header design. A DEVEK Level 2 with some additional features.

I will let you know when they will be ready.

think pappy had a bit of a ticket issue/ 140+mph... but I think he's going to keep the beast, albeit probably not do as much "testing" on public roads for a while... the GT3 he was racing was clocked at over 160mph!! oops... guess those OEM headers aren't to bad...

my devel L2 stuff seems fine, but there is a bit of a clearance issue w/the oil pan on my 85 w/89 heads, etc - not enough room even for a heat shield - maybe mark can tweak the design a bit for you?? or did I put them on backwards?? LOL

pappy did mention that borla was doing/thinking about a header also... might drop him a line...

I was able to make 333 rwhp with screens removed, msds headers /w modified otto x pipe,2.5 duels and airbox mods. This was in normally asperated form. Otto told me that a 2.5 inch duel exhaust from the x pipe back was worth 15 rwhp.
