That's the dangerous part that I DO know about and if anyone can blow the OB's engine up, I'm probably your man! A 70 degree, blue-sky, Sunday afternoon makes me definitely want to run, redlining it through the gears, so at least I've got a sporting chance. All things being equal, I'll risk it and pray nothing comes unravelled.

However, if my engine blows up spontaneously, you can expect a visit from me!

More like the catch phrase to the old excedren commercial: "Please Dave, I would rather do it myself!!".......

Gretch:

Actually the "it's not my car" phrase was used for my enjoyment as I lay on my back under the car. The fellas working on the top part of the engine would say "oops", "uh-oh" and "oh no!" and then of course...."it's ok, it's not my car."

The intake and cam covers are scheduled for delivery tomorrow (5/17/05).

The 7-way vacuum fitting will also be here 5/17/05.

My missing flexplate bolt should be here 5/18/05.

There's a slight chance I could try turning the key Thursday, but more likely it'll be Sunday evening or Monday 5/23.

That is COLD, man....But I have friends like that, thus my preference for the alternate phrase......"I would rather do it myself".

Big "Cool" Dave........ I think you should change your handle....

Dave could do a WEB Broadcast via Yahoo or MSN chat, just use a web cam or a video capture card. I used to video phone my equal work buddy in another town just to see how well it worked. It was different but fun. Could be easily done if you have the equipment.....Bill

May be Dave will start an other thread but what considerations are there to statring this thing after its been apart?

priming oil system??....do you crank and crank without it starting or do you let it just fire right up and let the oil pump/system do its job?

Pressurizing the fuel system via jumper realy with out turnign the enigne over?

Power steering resiv.?

Were pulling for you Dave. I dont think you will be buying any drinks at SITM!

Well, the exhaust is re-connected to the manifolds, the crank pulleys are bolted up and the flexplate is fully re-attached (found that damn missing bolt) with the lower bellhousing bolted up. Other than that, I was just laying on my back under the car trying to figure out which damn wires attach to the starter and which damn wires attach to the alternator.

Guys, I need photos of the wires as well as where they're fastened to the chassis. I can't remember how they're routed and I don't want to guess. Some of it seems intuitive, but I'm tired and that's not good enough.

I've reached the point where I'm sick of being in the garage until 11:30 every evening. I WANT THIS DONE!!!

The valve covers and intake arrive tomorrow, so tomorrow evening is going to be a lot of work...as if the last zillion days in a row haven't.

P.S. I'm going to take Greg up on his offer. I'll have the camcorder set up on a tripod and capture the moment...good, bad or otherwise.

One thing's for sure. When it fires up, every damn person in the neighborhood's going to know it.

lol, yeah, the neighbors are gonna be thinking I hope that car isn't always that loud. i had to drive down to the local muffler shop without any exhaust from the manifold back. one of my neighbor's kids ran out the front door and stared at me wondering what the hell the racket was.

Amazing progress!

Hang in there, Dave, but don't hurt yourself trying to get her done. If you start to redline, remember adding another day or 2 to the project timeline won't hurt.

Dave, not sure if this pic will help (looking up at the alternator/oil filter). Both of my cars are up on jack stands as I am swapping out disk brakes (cross drilled on going on the manual trans car) so it is easy for me to get pics of the underside for you. If you need any specific pics give me a call and I will send them.
