Someone should have picture of Euro car online to solve this. If not Netherlands is going to be full of them this coming weekend. Perhaps LHD and RHD side by side.

Well now, hold on there... as I said, I need to re-check to see the orientation. I don't want to name names until I'm sure of what I've got. I'll try and get a pic tonight when I get home, but I'll be helping BigDave re-install his engine so we can drive together to SITM. That for more important than my H4 issue right now. I'll post pics as soon as I have a chance.

Andrew: Get them focused correctly. A blind driver is dangerous. He has a 50% chance of choosing to err in your direction. If I had to choose between a guard rail that doesn't have insurance and a car that does, I might choose to err on the side of the one I have reason to believe has insurance. It's a jungle out there.

If I recall correctly, seeing Jon Holdsworth's RHD SE, there was some kind of sticker applied to the H4 light in the same shape.

Here's a couple instructions for aiming the headlights (courtesy Nichol's site):

I got my H4's off a car in Italy. The rising wedge on both headlamps is to the right. The pattern is refered to as E-code. I use the method Rich Andrade described for aiming. This results in a beam that is below hoizontal and will not blind oncoming traffic. I see many people who think lighting up the treetops is good. With H4's you see the road, and unlike DOT lamps, the tree tops should be in darkness. Here is my write-up of installing the lamps.

Andrew it is also possible that the bulbs might be the 80-100 watt which makes the "low beam" a bit bright. Some of the bulbs are 55-60 watt any standard H-4 bulb fits.

Andrew, your diagram is correct.

Another unstated point in my original post is that we sit lower and may have the perception that we need brighter lights to compete with those beams higher than us. Where does this end, with two blinded drivers closing upon each other? I've given the H4s a lot of thought, but I vote for not running "off road only" rated lamps. Maybe having bigger amunition is the only answer.

I use 80/100 H4 bulbs - sold as "off-road only". Properly aimed you should not get any oncoming drivers angry. The top knife edge of the H4 bulb and reflector should keep the beam down with the exception of when you go over a rise in the road or perhaps load the hatch with bags of cement.

I found some 100/130 H4 bulbs, but I'm afraid that using them might allow some of the smoke out of the wiring harness.
And everyone knows how hard it is to put the smoke back in once it gets out!
