Hey Jim,
Transfer the title into my name with my washington address and get a clean washington title (drive it up), and then we'll transfer title back to your name and you'll have a clean NV title. You can retitle salvage cars up here, and I'll help any way I can, really.

It is perhaps worth noting that Fireman's sold this car for $590.40 that was it. By declaring it COD they lost probably a couple thousand dollars. The lein sale approach might just work ,that is how cars abandoned at airport parking lots get a "clear title" so the car can be sold by the operator of the lot. Tow companies and auto repair shops also use lein sale to get title.

I was in contact with the FL DMV today to ask them if there was any way a certificate of destruction could be changed to a title that would allow a vehicle to be put on the road again. I explained the whole story to them and let thm know that the car is now in NV. The DMV rep went on to tell me that it is the insurance company that utimately decides the condition / fate of the vehicle. I called the insurance company at once to speak with them about their deifinition of a totaled vehicle. In my case the vehicle was listed as a total simply because of the dollar amount to repair the car. The physical damage was minimal, but it was the dollar amount that was the deciding factor. I went over the insurance report with the insurance company rep and pointed out to him that on one of the pages of the report it lists the car as a total loss but also indicates that the vehicle is drivable. He agreed that this was a good point towards my case. He is going to draft a letter for me to give to the FL DMV stating that the vehicle was not physically damaged enough to warrent a total loss / non repairable title. It should have been listed as a total loss / repairable. The person from the FL DMV did not say that changing the title status was impossible. I am hoping that this will help my cause.

Patience. Bureaucracy is involved.

We are all eager to hear the news of a happy ending.

Worst case scenario: this may become the most beautiful garbage can ever ( in Idaho).
