Thumbs up Thanks to Bill Ball !

A big thumbs up go to Bill Ball for getting my 928 running cooler and better this weekend.

My car had been sitting in the garage (actually being used as a rolling storage container) for approximately the last 7-8 months. I guess buying a newer Porsche makes an owner do crazy things...

After a few encouraging words and offers to help, I finally took Bill up on the offers and decided it was time to resurrect the 928 from it's dust-collecting spot in the garage.

I cleaned out the car, dusted it off and put in the new battery. On the first crank it sputtered to life and after the idle stabilized, she just ran as if I had never neglected her. I know, I felt really bad for that. The next day, I brought her over to Bill's house for some TLC in the form of a coolant and oil swap and an install of a DEVEK electric fan unit.

Now, my car runs great but in my mind the most important item to mention is all of the hard work and help that Bill has done on my car this weekend and in the past. On this last weekend alone, he helped both George and Seth with their 928's and then my pitifull example.

There isn't enough I can say about the people in the 928 community and I personally know only a few of them. Here is to the "Bills" out there...

I will agree that Bill is a true asset to the 928 community. He has
helped me countless times getting my 928 ready for ORR. I'm glad
we have him in our area...

Here are a couple of photos from this weekends activities:

Thanks Bill.

Not to hijack the thread, but how do you like the fan set up? From Devek? I ordered one last Monday (they are on back order). The install looks pretty much straight forward. Your engine compartment looks pretty nice, BTW.

Does the Devek fan go in and out easier? Looks like it's thinner and allows more room to work in without removal. Easier removal would be a wonderful plus!

Anthony & John:

The DEVEK fan setup drops in easily, unlike the stock fan shroud, which can be a royal PITA to remove on some models years. The DEVEK fan setup provides all kinds of new room, so it is easier to get to the accessory belts, crank bolt and tensioner. The only thing I would like to see is a plug that would mate to the stock harness. The plug they provide seems generic (probably came on the fan), but it did not come with the mating half, so we had to improvise. Also, I would like some povision for tie wrap points. Hey, I suppose the harness clips from the stock shroud could be moved to the DEVEK fans to hold the harness. We ended up zip tieing to the fan across the bottom. Fans are not noisey and seem the really pull air.

Thanks for the kind comments here. It seems to me helping is just part of the 928 community personality and makes owning these cars much easier over all. I learn a lot each time I get my hands dirty, things that help me with my car as much as person I am helping. So, it just seems like the smart thing to do.

Default Bill is the Man!

I must too chime in here!! Bill and Jorj helped me get my Shark going one weekend and really helped give me the confidence to tackle big jobs, like the ones I am about to start: Steering rack, oil pan gasket, and motor mounts
then redoing all the rubber on the top end, injector cleaning, powdercoating the manifold and cam covers. Go Bill! Go Jorj!!

On the way home from Bill's house, my car's temp gauge stayed planted firmly in the middle of the gauge. It has never been there before, or at most it was a point that the needle would move passed (very quickly) before coming to rest after the second white line.

The setup works great and is much thinner, so now I have much better access to the front of the engine. My engine compartment looks better in pictures than in real life.

When my 928 goes to sleep, it dreams of beings Seth's car.

The only car that doesn't dream of being Seth's car is.....Steve's car (Seth's old car).

I have wondered a few times whether I'd still have a 928, if Bill wasn't there... But we should also thank Bill's wife for letting him spend so much time with us!!!

This weekend at least one-half day was at home! The new lift should get a workout. We used it to do Rob's oil change.

Hey, my neighbor noticed all the activity and has decided he wants a 928! He knows he's got me and a lift next door.

Shoot, after however many years together, she's probably glad he's at someone else's house being a kid and making a mess!
