Wow, so they had a bolt cutter and they did not have a key (hence the smashed window.) They were able to defeat the club, and they could break or pick the 928 ignition lock to get the car started (if they had a key to start the car they did not need to smash a window to get in.)

Funny that they were sophisticated enough to get past the locked gate and club, yet just smashed a window to get into the car.

Good luck, I'll keep an eye out too.

I remember when a friend of mine took his 928 to Chicago for the weekend. Pulled a few relay's each night to prevent theft.

My car an 87, im not sure of other MY years, didnt have the alarm option. When i was under the fuse panel a while back i found the connection where it taps into...a quick look at the wiring diagrams to confirm it and i had a "kill switch" wired in no time.
Park the car, pull the hidden switch and it will crank ALL day and thats it.
Real Real simple.

Actaully, i like the Jager shift lever also. Pull the plunger out and take it with. The lack of a selector "button" to get it in gear would cause a bunch of confussion when they are in a hurry, they wont be able to get the car out of PARK, no matter how hard they pull. They will brake the lever long before the linkage on the side of the tranny.

Either way, it sucks just having your car broken into

Hello everyone...

Just wanted to post an update on my stolen 928... it has not been recovered, sadly... and as I prepare to send in the title and the keys to my insurance company and give up for good, I thought I'd refresh the post just in case someone has recently noticed it somewhere.

There is a possibility that the car was spotted some weeks ago in Carefree, Arizona. A kind Rennlister sent me a message here about it, but unfortunately because I'm unaccustomed to this site, I didn't realize that there were messages here for me. I am trying to get in contact with the potential witness there in Arizona now. If anyone else stumbles across any leads, please email me directly at ariochnyc@yahoo.com

best,
dave

Clubs are easy to defeat. Hacksawing through a Club or the steering wheel is fairly easy. I've seen a video of it demonstrated.

The smashed window could be a coverup for an inside job as previously mentioned about the stereo shop. Also the copied key might not have been accurate enough for the door, but worked for the ignition.

Someday I'll copy the page of the instruction book for the lockout kit I have at work. The kit has a special tool for the 928 and I don't think it would even work on my car.

I'll keep an eye out for the car, but my 928 is the only one I've seen within 200+ miles in the last 2 or 3 years.

Hacksaw? 5 seconds with a 24 volt cordless sawzall.

About 2 minutes to get the ignition relay out and started.

What a shame.

My GTS has the alarm system but a back up never hurts.

A removable kill switch is a great idea. Has anyone done that? Do you have a diagram or other info? If I pull a relay, which one?

Dave , sorry nothing has turned up yet. I am sure you have exhausted all avenues on what could have happened and who took it.

I certainly hope this story has a happy ending!

I went with the hacksaw for noise. You're right though, sawzalla cut those things like butter.

I sure do appreciate that, H... at least you got your car back, no doubt better off for the couple of "Italian Tune-Up" moments I had with her...

And yes, it really was fun. Give a shout when you're back in the bay area....
