my 928 Stolen.

1 Attachment(s)
My beautiful 928 was stolen from my building's locked, gated, garage in the Miracle Mile neighborhood of Los Angeles early friday morning.

I know that no one notices other 928s like 928 owners, so I thought I'd post this in the hopes that someone might see her by the side of the road somewhere. Hopefully the picture comes through but the color is close to a gunmetal (greyish) blue. I'm not fooling myself about the chances of her return, but if anyone does happen to learn anything I hope they will contact me.

thanks...

dave

Are this cars easy to lift? I've often wondered about this.

Sorry to hear - I'll be on the lookout (my office is not far - downtown).

Sorry to hear that. Damn, is that like 5 (+?) late model 928s wrecked of lost iin the last couple of weeks???!? :crying:

We don't see many 928s up here in Sunnyvale; maybe two others besides Sharkskin's and mine. So I will be keeping an eye out for it. Do I have your permission to castrate the perpetrators (assuming they were male)? That really sucks. My gut tells me it is in Mexico right now.

Damn, sorry to hear about this... We'll keep our eyes open here on the East Coast.

How did they get ahold of the keys?

Unless they towed it out, it's very difficult to steal a 928 the old fashioned way.

Could the perp obtain replacement key by reading the VIN
off the dash plaque?

Ernest (NYC)
Hope the 928 gets recovered quickly and unmolested.

Unlikely since I had a hard time getting a replacement key that worked from Porsche HQ. I would think 928s are hard to steal since in the past I've had trouble starting my car with the actual key.

Sorry to hear about the theft. Hopefully you'll recover it soon.

Inisde job? Maybe a friend of a resident or something. Did they break in or steal it when the gate was open? My condolences but I can be sure it WON"T turn up on my neighbourhood.

LA is the worst for car theft. I have had two relatives tell me that 4 of their vehicles have been stolen there. My suggestion is to buy a good alarm if you live there, one with paging and/or tracking capability.

Something smells with that theft. Somebody in or near the building knows the suspect or is the suspect.

algie928s4 04-18-2005 01:28 AM

I live in Edinburgh, Scotland and this is the DOUBLE of mine although I have teardrop/cup mirrors so please check the mirrors BEFORE you pull me out the car and give me a kicking!
But on a hopeful note the 928 is a "specialist" market- not many people just go and buy one ad hoc- and judging by the condition of the car it's going to stand out- so there is a good chance it could be spotted by a Rennlister. And any Rennlister should ask themselves where the mint spare parts are coming from if they see any advertised.
Might be an idea to post milage and anything "original" just to your car- any half wit can put it on a low loader but can they make it disappear??
Sorry to hear about the theft, if you catch 'em give them akick from me if you have any energy left!

WHATTTTTT!!????!!!! I am literally cursing up a storm here. That is my old car. The one I should have never sold but nevertheless went to a good home. Go****it!!! I have offered money for my car back at least once every 6 months...aww sh*t.

Ron_H 04-18-2005 02:51 AM

What Algie said makes me think that the only likely scenario is that it is being chopped up presently and sold for parts. It is too recognizeable to try to move it the way it is. Otherwise, it is being shipped out of the country. The sad thing is that it is in such good condition and will be ripped apart piece by piece as if there was an unlimited supply of them.

I once came out of my apartment in Capitola to find my cherry 911 gone and a pile of broken tempered window glass in the street where I parked it. I know the pain.
