If you hadn't saved that kids life, he probably would have kept it up until someone else got him. as it is, you gave him a great gift. You did the right thing, and somebody up there must like you a lot. Take it easy for a few days, and don't be surprised if you get rattled just about the time you think you are over it. He was just a stupid kid who is hopfully a little wiser now. You are a good man. Thank you for being who you are.

Painful, but glad you guys are OK. Seems like a lot of damge for 45mph, but hey, you walked away. Someone should have grabbed the kid. I expect you will be getting a letter from the city to pay for all the damage ...that's gonna hurt! If you had the kid, you could sue his parents and they could have paid for everything.

I had an incident happen in the 82 which could have killed my girlfriend. F**#ing 13 or so year old kids were lobbing rocks onto the road and hit my car on top of the fender right in front of the windshield. Passenger side window was open and another split second of difference would have put the boulder right in her chest if not head. I circled back to see what had "really" happened and saw 2 kids running. I wheeled the car into an open driveway and blasted out after them. I caught them and nearly throttled the **** out of them. I grabbed both of them by the back of the neck and walked them down to find their parents. Just when we got to the bottom of the hill, one of the dad's came walking up. He was confused about what was going on and I immediately laced into him yelling and screaming. I had threatened to press full charges if restitution was not received. Needless to say, the guy paid for EVERYTHING...and then some! I think he put his kid in a wheel chair after that event.

Very sorry again man!

wow! that's a scary close call!! amazing things happen so fast, yet consequences last... glad all are ok, but it would be nice to "have a chat" w/the kid/parents...

been reading WAY too many 928 crash stories lately... dudes - take it easy! I'd like to have someone to roll with whenever my shark gets back on the road, hate to be the last lonely survivor!!

Keith all those wonderful crash tests you see on TV are done at 35 mph that is it just 35 Mph maximum.

Damn Mike, I am glad for you that you don't have to go the rest of your life with that flashback of running someone over. That kid should have gotten his. Especially fleeing like a two bit wuss. He better grow up to cure cancer or something. Great news about you and yours.

I can't tell you how impressed I was with you at the SC install, they just don't make young men like you anymore.
I'm feeling sick about your car but like I said, at least no one was hurt.
Thanks Jim! That really means a great deal to me... I try my best.

Its Ok. I'm really trying to look ahead and get this taken care of. The potential car that i'm looking at is an S4 which is what i've always wanted. I loved the 86.5, but I always lusted after the S4 body style. The quicker I can get all this taken care of, the quicker I can get what I want. Thanks for thinking of me

Thanks for your offer Seth. Fortunately, the insurance will be very easy to sort out and shouldn't give me any problems.

Would you do the same? Or just go straight for the kid knowing he'll run leaving you to wreck your car and possibly die in it and never help?

Just another reason to yell obsentities out the window at skaters.

Maybe I should have run over his foot... that way, he wouldn't have been able to run away!

I'm shocked that it was only a 45 mph hit. I would have thought the shark was able to withstand more than that... I hit a large tree in a 951 once going around 40-ish. Nowhere as a bad.

Take Seth's advice and bargin hard. And go get checked out medically, even if you don't hurt today. Whiplash can take weeks or months to show up.

Peace.

Scott

One thing I found very interesting during the crash... It was VERY smooth. The 928 just plowed through everything in its path. I might have felt a little bump at the end with the tree, but hardly. In fact, my girlfriend has NO signs of the seatbelt even rubbing against her neck. My neck has a slight belt-burn on it, but that's all. This truly was a walk-away accident in the best way. Hopefully I won't start feeling bad in a few weeks though...

Mike,

I am sorry to see your shark suffered such a terrible fate, but it did its job and you and your girlfriend are OK and the dumb kid hopefully is a little smarter today. I've seen many cases where the 928 protected its occupants in such nasty events. Shxt happens and the fact your 928 saved you and the kid, in the long run things worked out as wel as they could have.

Lets hope you can find an even better replacement.

Man! That is one crazy story! I am glad you are ok. It's sad that the 928 had to die, but at least it protected you guys, and probably saved that kid. My condolences... Damn, what a post...

It truly is sad the 928 was sacrificed for some dumb kids life....but for no one on the board to even quote Fast Times and Ridgemont High???
