I removed all the damaged pieces, except the column. Now I just have to build it back up. Which means I have to find nearly everything that's NOT in the picture! ![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

It's amazingly easy to remove the dash. After the console is out, there's only four screws holding it on.

When I pulled the dead alternator, I found that it was a Marshal. Replacements are generally either Paris-Rhone or Bosch, and you can't use the metal shroud with those, so I took it to my local rebuilder shop. (A real shop, not 'Battery Exchange' or some other chain.)
Mine was toast, but luckily, they had one on the shelf, with a 928 part# and Porsche stamp - $125!![jumper](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/jumper.gif)

One nice thing about this place is that they will fix only what's broken, and charge accordingly, or sell you a rebuilt.

For those that were wondering, here's the air pump delete idler (92810619500).
![](https://members.rennlist.com/porken/AirPumpDeleteIdler.jpg)
I understand now why the bearing can't be replaced. The bearing is part of the pulley, and is not removeable. The pulley's hollow axle is pressed into the aluminum bracket. My idler spins a bit too fast; low on grease. I suppose you could drill a small hole in the metal bearing cover/dust shield, and pump grease in. I'm going to look at finding or making a replacement, perhaps there's a Mercedes idler that'd work.
...
The alternator lower bracket bolt mounting hole was stripped. Even worse, the PO put in a standard bolt! There were some threads deeper in the hole, so I put some long set screws in. (I need to find a good source for stainless studs in town. Studs are cool.)

...
More trivia: the power steering pump bracket doesn't have a provision for a 'pusher' bolt for setting the belt tension like the '81. I had to use a prybar!
