Default 88 S4 Value?

I've come across an 88 S4 in what looks to be excellent condition. 77k on the clock, Expresso Metallic with a saddle leather interior. 5spd, not auto.

The exterior color gives me pause, but the condition of the car is stunning. Any ideas for me on a fair price? It is sitting at a specialty dealer I know and trust. PPI first of course.

I think you should buy the best condition you can afford with the color being secondary. I like the color and would consider it. You would not see another one like it often.

IIRC, I think this car has been discussed before. Search for previous threads using the exterior/interior colors as keywords.

Yes, I agree with Worf. It has starred on its own thread before. Search Grasshopper and your efforts will be rewarded.

Very nice color combo, quite rare too! If (big if) the PPI is perfect and all the maintence is in order (probably is for a car that clean) than it should go north of $15K with ease...Schmidt sold an 8900 (yes 8,900) mile 88 not long ago for $26K & I think that was an auto? Since its a 5 speed it should go for above KBB for sure!

5spd are becoming very rare. Base value is 6k. Add 4k for clean. Add 4k for 5spd. Add 2k for rare colour. Add 1k for all records. Add 4k for all maintenance up-to date including no leaks and pump/belt recent. Add 5k for very low miles for the year. Adds up to a bit high but that is my opinion. If I were looking and found this car at under 18k I'd buy it.

Well, they're *asking* $18,900 so will there be another shark in your future?

I also noticed the "rear air delete" as well! Rear air delete makes it even more rare & lighter too. $18,900 seems fair, maybe a little high. I was thinking 16-17 with excellent records!

Thanks for the info (and link to previous thread). I've decided to go in another direction. However, this car is about 20 minutes from my house so if anyone is serious and wants me to take a look PM me.

As far as I know the car is still at Ayer's, but sometimes his inventory on the web in out of date.

Now to get my 87 Carrera out of storage...
