Default Info of almost no value at all or does size really matter

I was dynoing a couple of cars earlier this week, a Lingenfelter blown Z06 (537 hp) and a 914 race car with a V8 (651 hp). The guys at the shop call my car the Land Shark and many other less complimentary names! So I'm often curious about how an S4 compares in size with some other cars. Here's a few quick measurements (wheel base first, then overall length):

S4---8'; 14'-8"
914--8'; 13'
Z06--8'-7"; 14'-11"

Also, the S4 and 993 & 996 bodies are very close to the same width at the windshield anyway. A few months ago I was looking at grafting a 993/996 upper section to my 928. It didn't take long to decide against that. Instead I'll build a completely new carbon fiber body!

I told it was useless!

Jeez, if people would stop ordering exhaust systems, I'd have more time to work on it! Next week looks to calling out for some turbo work!

What was the induction system on the Z06?
Thanks,

Several years ago Road & Track (Rodent Tracks) magazine compared the overall size of a 928s and a Pontiac Firebird. They overlaid thier profiles on grid paper and found them to be almost identical in everyway except in height. That was also when someone had tested the 928 in wind tunnel and found it to be the most aerodynamical vehicle in world, FROM THE REAR! Truly wierd!

Andy,

The Z06 has a Magnusson twin screw blower. Don't know which model, but I do know that after buying the car from Lingenfelter, the owner put another $125k into it.

Thanks Tom. Do you know if it was intercooled? The Magnusson is actualy an Eaton 112 improved roots type supercharger. It has the same rotors as the Jaguar/Eaton M112 I use. 537 is a whole lot of power from the MP112, pretty amazing.

Aw shucks. You guys get to have all the fun! And the 26th is my birthday too. No welding, grinding, sawing, burning my fingers, just run the dyno!

See you soon.

Andy,
I've written the owner re the intercooler, but I can't imagine that it's not. The supercharger is an interesting setup. A shaft along side the blower is driven via a toothed belt at the front of the engine. The rear end of the shaft delivers power to the rotor shaft. There is a very nice automatic tensioner too. Perhaps something similar could be incorporated into your kits. The ECU is very nice and powerful too. A guy from Texas flew out to tune the car and I was very impressed with the computer's capability and the ease with which it could be adjusted. Of course the tech had about $20k worth of electronics for this purpose!

I'm looking forward to meeting you and seeing your kits. I agree that your layout seems the most sensible. How about a variable pulley to adjust the rotor speed?<g>

Ken,

You're a real task master! Like BB King or somebody says, "If I didn't have work I wouldn't have no fun at all!" Thanks for all those pics, but what am I supposed to do with them?

Regards,

Tom Cloutier
